La Liga Matchday 1 Betting Odds

Real Madrid and Barcelona are the two heavy favorites to win La Liga this season, and they will be the visiting teams in the first two games of the year. The Blaugrana will head to the Basque Country to take on Athletic Bilbao, while Real Madrid will face a Celta Vigo side that finished just outside the relegation zone. They are the only two odds-on favorites away from home in Matchday 1 of La Liga.

August 16

Athletic Bilbao +372
FC Barcelona -140
Draw +297
Over/Under 2.5 and 3

Barcelona have dominated the domestic league for the last decade, and they are even better than they were last year. Lionel Messi is still at the top of his game, and he has some new toys to play with other than Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele. Antoine Griezmann and Frenkie de Jong were added to the fold over the summer, making the best attack in the league last season even better. Athletic Bilbao defend well and it’s never easy to win at San Mames, but it’s hard to see Barcelona starting off with anything other than three points.

August 17

Celta Vigo +358
Real Madrid -142
Draw +313
Over/Under 3 and 3.5

Los Blancos have shaken things up even more after a massively disappointing season. Eden Hazard and Luka Jovic will give the attack more bite than it had las year, while Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy, and Rodrygo will strengthen the defense.

Zinedine Zidane will make sure his side gets off on the right foot.

CD Leganes +103
CA Osasuna +308
Draw +221
Over/Under 2

After a two-year absence, Osasuna are back in the top-flight of Spanish football. They won the Segunda Division last season, but it’s going to be a struggle for Los Rojillos to stay afloat. The club has not been able to spend much money, and they are likely to be underdogs in most of their matches.

Villarreal CF -163
Granada CF +453
Draw +301
Over/Under 2.5

It was a rough season for the Yellow Submarine. Villarreal were in the relegation zone for much of the season even though they finished with a -3 goal differential, and they have to have better luck this campaign.

Valencia CF -138
Real Sociedad +414
Draw +264
Over/Under 2 and 2.5

There is a great opportunity to take the underdog here. Real Sociedad ended last season strong, so even though Valencia are a Champions League playing at home, the visitors have a very good chance of picking up a result. They play very good defense, and Valencia still have some concerns on the attack.

August 18

Atletico Madrid -227
Getafe CF +676
Draw +325
Over/Under 2 and 2.5

Diego Simeone’s side are the biggest favorite of the week, but Getafe are a much better team than the line indicates. They finished in fifth place in the league table last year, and that result was not a fluke.

Atletico lost a lot this offseason, and while they reloaded, it may take some time for the club to find its footing. Given their style of play, Getafe could certainly earn a result here.

Deportivo Alaves +117
UD Levante +247
Draw +222
Over/Under 2 and 2.5

For the first half of last season, it looked like Alaves may qualify for European play. The small club fell back down to Earth over the final few months though, finishing outside the top half of the table. Their three biggest signings this summer were center forwards, and they are hoping to hit it big on one of those signings.

Espanyol Barcelona +195
Sevilla FC +137
Draw +235
Over/Under 2.5

This is an early chance to see which Sevilla we will watch this season. The club has not had an issue scoring goals in recent years, but the back line has constantly been an issue. Espanyol have a Europa League qualifying match on Thursday, so Sevilla will have the rest advantage.

Real Betis -149
Real Valladolid +420
Draw +255
Over/Under 2 and 2.5

The hosts are one of the continual feel good stories of La Liga. Real Betis don’t have many trophies, but their fans are some of the most loyal, and that leads to a great home field advantage when they are in Estadio Benito Villamarin.

August 19

Mallorca +187
SD Eibar +155
Draw +205
Over/Under 2 and 2.5

The temptations of playing in Mallorca are plenty strong over the course of the season, but the island won’t be a distraction in the season opener.
