Saturday MLS Odds Report

One of the best defenders in the history of the MLS has decided to step away from the game. The Seattle Sounders’ Chad Marshall has been dealing with a number of injuries over the last few seasons, and he has finally made the decision to call it a career. Marshall is the only player in the history of the league to be named MLS Defender of the Year on three separate occasions, and the Sounders will miss his presence in the back line. With the Sounders currently in second place, that news could make Los Angeles FC winning the Western Conference a mere formality.

Chicago Fire +128
New York City FC +195
Draw +253
Over/Under 2.5 and 3

Nemanja Nikolic’s scoring woes have kept Chicago from being more involved in the playoff picture. The 2017 MLS Golden Boot winner saw his scoring dip last season, and he has missed some great chances so far this campaign. Chicago is 4-1-2 at home this season, but their opponents this week are well-rested. NYCFC had a bye last weekend, so they will have very fresh legs here.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC +134
FC Dallas +191
Draw +245
Over/Under 2.5 and 3

The under is the play in this game. This match could be dreadful to watch. Vancouver aren’t a great offensive team, and FC Dallas like to play the counterattack game. That could lead to a lot of mucking about in the middle of the field, and we might not see a lot of creativity or scoring chances.

FC Cincinnati +162
New York Red Bulls +161
Draw +238
Over/Under 2.5

After getting off to a decent start this season, FC Cincinnati have cratered in recent weeks. They have just one win in their last nine games, and they were shut out in six of those nine outings. Cincinnati are looking very much like an expansion team, so the New York Red Bulls will try to get the full three points on Saturday. NYRB are riding high after beating Atlanta United despite going down a man in the 35th minute, but they could be fatigued due to that and playing a home game against Vancouver on Wednesday.

Philadelphia Union -158
Portland Timbers +387
Draw +311
Over/Under 3

The Union are one of the best teams in the league. Philadelphia currently sit atop the Eastern Conference, and they are excellent at controlling the ball and not letting opponents expose them on the counter. They should cruise to a win over a Portland team that is certainly looking forward to playing their first home game next week after three straight months on the road.

New England Revolution +117
DC United +220
Draw +249
Over/Under 2.5 and 3

What a difference a coaching change can make. Sacking Brad Friedel and replacing him with Mike Lapper has given the Revolution a shot in the arm. They have knocked off San Jose 3-1 and drew to nil with Montreal last week since Lapper took over, and the defense looks much better than it had under Friedel. I think that makes the under a sharp play here.

Minnesota United FC +113
Houston Dynamo +222
Draw +258
Over/Under 2.5 and 3

Keep an eye on whether or not Alberth Elis gets cleared to play in this game. Elis came off during last week’s 2-1 win over D.C. United with a head injury, and there has been no update on whether or not he will play here. He is a fundamental part of their midfield, and it would be significant if he missed the game.

Colorado Rapids +143
Columbus Crew +183
Draw +238
Over/Under 2.5

Congratulations to Colorado for finally winning their first match last week. The Rapids went on the road and stunned the Los Angeles Galaxy, and they have a chance to win their second of the season against Columbus on Saturday. The Crew have been dreadful over the last six weeks, posting a 1-7 record in that stretch.
