Saturday MLS Odds Report

We didn’t have many games last weekend because of the international break, but the MLS is back in full force with a full slate of action this week. All 24 teams will be in action this weekend with most of the action taking place on Saturday, and as the season is winding down in most leagues, it’s just getting started in the United States. Let’s look at the games.

Real Salt Lake +114
FC Dallas +233
Draw +242
Over/Under 2.5

Nothing has changed from last year with regards to Real Salt Lake’s defense. This is still one of the league’s more mediocre back lines, and that will present them significant challenges in their bid to get back to the postseason. However, FC Dallas have not been particularly prolific on the offensive end with just five goals through four matches even though they played teams like New England and Colorado at home.

FC Cincinnati +124
Philadelphia Union +203
Draw +252
Over/Under 2.5 and 3

It’s been a great MLS debut for Cincinnati thus far. The expansion franchise won its first game two weeks ago (knocking off defending Western Conference champions Portland), and Cincinnati followed that up last week with their first road win when they knocked off New England. They aren’t big favorites this week though after the Union exploded for three goals against Columbus last Saturday.

Vancouver Whitecaps +236
Seattle Sounders +106
Draw +262
Over/Under 2.5 and 3

This is the first Cascadia Cup of the season, and the Sounders might close as a favorite to pick up a road win on the three-way line. Seattle has started the season strong with 10 goals in three wins over Cincinnati, Colorado, and Chicago, while Vancouver has yet to get a point from a match.

New England Revolution +111
Minnesota United +223
Draw +268
Over/Under 3

I’m a little surprised at this line considering how bad the Revolution have played. It’s not that their winless necessarily, it’s how woeful they have looked in an 0-1-3 start. They have yet to score a goal at home, and Brad Friedel is on the hot seat. The team looked pretty bad in his first season as manager in 2018, and things only appear to be worse. Minnesota United are a live road dog.

Chicago Fire +170
New York Red Bulls +156
Draw +236
Over/Under 2.5

The Red Bulls are 1-1-1, but many observers believe this is one of the top teams in the league. They suffered a stunning defeat at the hands of Orlando City last week in a game where they were heavily favored, so it’s odd to see them as a slight road favorite when that’s so rare in this league. Chicago are 0-1-2 coming into this one.

San Jose Earthquakes +231
Los Angeles FC +100
Draw +288
Over/Under 3 and 3.5

Once again, the Earthquakes look like they are the worst team in the MLS. San Jose already as a goal differential of -7 after just three games, and they have yet to get a result. Los Angeles FC are red hot to start the year, and they have a trio of players that can rip apart this defense. LAFC are likely to win this one by multiple goals.

Columbus Crew +103
Atlanta United +250
Draw +257
Over/Under 2.5 and 3

It took less than a month for all the shine to come off of Atlanta United. Atlanta was thought to have a decent chance of repeating as MLS Cup champions, but new manager Frank de Boer is off to a rocky start. The Five Stripes are 0-2-1 and the dynamic offense we saw last year has evaporated. Columbus have one of the better defenses in the league and could further frustrate them.

Sporting Kansas City -151
Montreal Impact +364
Draw +312
Over/Under 3

Sporting KC were the best team in the Western Conference through much of the year in 2018. However, they are just 1-1-1 this year, while the Montreal Impact are 2-0-1 with two road wins to their credit already. They are playing six straight road games to start the season, but they did get a break last week.

Colorado Rapids +130
Houston Dynamo +199
Draw +244
Over/Under 2.5 and 3

It’s hard for me to have faith in Colorado considering how bad they have been historically. Even though they have a significant home field advantage because of the altitude, they have not been able to really exploit it, and they are 0-2-2 this season.
