Saturday MLS Odds Report

The MLS is more up and down than any other league in the world. The nature of the league has led to there being a lot of parity, so it’s rare to see huge lines in this league. It takes a while to shake out which teams are among the best and which are among the worst, and home field advantage is vastly more important in the MLS than in other leagues. With that in mind, let’s look at the matches on Saturday in Matchday 3.

MLS Betting Odds at BookMaker.eu

Chicago Fire +137
Seattle Sounders +187
Draw +240
Over/Under 2.5 and 3

This line is indicative of the value of home field advantage. The Seattle Sounders are looking like one of the best teams in the MLS again this season. Seattle set the record for the longest winning streak in MLS history last season, and they have built on that with multiple goal wins in their first two games of the year.

Still, they are underdogs to a Chicago Fire team that is 0-1-1. Chicago have not been as dynamic on offense as we believed they would be after some moves this offseason, but they have defended relatively well.

International duty has affected this line too. Nicolas Lodeiro and Gustav Svensson will both miss this match for Seattle, and that has tilted the line in favor of Chicago.

Columbus Crew -118
FC Dallas +320
Draw +250
Over/Under 2.5

Some are starting to believe that the Columbus Crew are one of the best teams in the league after a 1-1-0 start. The Crew have looked impressive, but its important to remember that in their draw with the NY Red Bulls, the Red Bulls were resting a number of starters for the CONCACAF Champions League, and their win came against a New England Revolution time that might be one of the worst in the MLS.

However, FC Dallas are dealing with a number of injuries. Dallas will be without three attackers and two of their defenders have been ruled questionable. This is also their first road game after two straight at home to start the year.

Houston Dynamo -134
Vancouver Whitecaps +350
Draw +270
Over/Under 2.5 and 3

Vancouver might be without some key members in defense for this game, and that’s not good considering the Whitecaps have already lost their first two in 2019. Jasser Khmiri and Brett Levis have both been ruled out, while PC is questionable.

Still, it’s a little surprising that Houston are an odds-on favorite after a midweek tilt south of the border in CONCACAF Champions League action. The Dynamo will have just two days to recover before this game.

New York Red Bulls -300
San Jose Earthquakes +900
Draw +375
Over/Under 2.5 and 3

It’s rare for any team to be a huge underdog in the MLS, but that’s the state of soccer in San Jose. The Earthquakes were the worst team in the league last year, and they might double down in 2019. They gave up a combined five goals to Montreal and Minnesota, and both teams were seen as clubs that would not make the playoffs this year.

Meanwhile, the Red Bulls are known for their strong starts. Like Houston, the Red Bulls also fell flat in the CONCACAF Champions League, but they have played just one MLS game and haven’t been as busy as the Dynamo. The Red Bulls rested a number of starters against Columbus in that game, so fatigue won’t be an issue.

Orlando City SC +115
Montreal Impact +230
Draw +240
Over/Under 2.5 and 3

The Lions don’t look like they will break their playoff drought after two draws to start the season, but at least their defense hasn’t been a dumpster fire. Orlando City’s porous defense was the story of last season, and that undermined their playoff hopes in 2018.
