Old School Meets New School
There are only a few teams who really have no playoff hopes left this year, but Week 12 is going to prove to be a tipping point for a lot of clubs. We'll see which teams have the best hopes to continuing on to factor into the playoff picture based on the line movement this week....
Russell Wilson is going up against one of the worst secondaries in the NFL this week, but there's a real question as to whether his Seattle Seahawks are deserving favorites against the Pittsburgh Steelers. For our purposes though, we don't so much care who ends up on which side of the four-point spread as much as we do whether Wilson will outduel Antonio Brown in our hypothetical fantasy football matchup....
On one glance, it would seem foolish to recommend that Tom Brady and Brock Osweiler belong in the same sentence together. Straight sports bettors know that Brady has put quarterbacks like Osweiler to shame for the last decade and a half, while fantasy football players have known Brady to be one of the most valuable commodities in the sport for that same period of time. However, when the Denver Broncos take on the New England Patriots on Sunday Night Football this week, we see a lot of value in taking the kid from Arizona State as a big dog against the top dog in the league for fantasy football purposes....
It seems as though the Oakland Raiders can’t handle prosperity. Clinging to a playoff spot after knocking off the Jets four weeks ago, they haven’t won since and are in danger of slipping further out of contention. As poorly as the Raiders have played in that span they are still in a better state than the Titans, who look to avoid their 11th straight home loss....
The Dolphins are 0-4 against AFC East opponents this season, and the games haven’t been close. Miami has been embarrassed in division games, losing all four by an average of 21.25 points. The closest was a 14-point loss to the Jets when the teams met in London in Week 4. It’s never a good sign when you’re getting pummeled by the opponents that know you best....
The Chargers have to win a game and break out of a six-game slump at some point, don’t they? San Diego has won four straight against Jacksonville and Sunday’s game presents the best opportunity. But the Jags are riding a two-game winning streak and are right in the thick of the AFC South hunt....
San Francisco’s offense is now in the hands of Blaine Gabbert, and he hopes for better results against Arizona than his predecessor Colin Kaepernick had in Week 2. The Cards routed the Niners 47-7 in that game with two pick-sixes. The Niners are pathetic on the road, but have at least been competitive at home with all three wins coming at Levi’s Stadium....
Two teams in the thick of the AFC playoff picture hook up in a huge game. The Chiefs are riding a four-game winning streak and have looked like the best team in the AFC during the run. On a short week and playing their third consecutive road game in a notoriously loud environment, the Bills face a stiff test....
Both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks have lost their running backs for long periods of time, but that isn't putting a damper on the spirits of either team. There's still plenty for each to be thankful for going into Thanksgiving weekend, as neither one played to their potential, yet both are still firmly entrenched in the playoff chase in their respective conferences....
With six weeks left to play in the 2015 season, aren't a lot of teams which really have no chance whatsoever of getting into the playoffs. Just because two of those teams will be on display on Monday Night Football this week, that doesn't mean there won't be some fantastic betting opportunities for the duel between the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens....
There are only six games left on the docket for the New England Patriots, and they're going to be heavy favorites to win each of the six. If there's a team which could trip them up though, the Denver Broncos it....
The Carolina Panthers have been disrespected all season long, but at some point, they're going to have to be considered serious Super Bowl contenders. They're on the longest regular season winning streak dating back to last year we've seen in the NFL since the perfect Patriots eight years ago, and they have a huge war on their hands on Thanksgiving Day against the Dallas Cowboys....
Just the thought of pitting Jay Cutler against Aaron Rodgers for fantasy football purposes in a primetime game which could help decide the fate of both the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers in 2015 is almost laughable. History suggests that Cutler stands absolutely no chance against a man who is surely headed to Canton in the not-too-distant future, and it's tough to argue with that sentiment when you look at the direction the Packers and Bears are headed in coming into Thursday night....
Two weeks ago, Sam Bradford went down with a concussion, ending his somewhat improbable streak of games as the starting quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles. That leaves Mark Sanchez to go up against Matt Stafford of the Detroit Lions for fantasy football matchup purposes, and there's a real chance the edge is going to go to Sanchez in spite of the fact that neither quarterback is going to find a ton of success against the other defense on Thanksgiving Day....
Atlanta’s 5-0 start is a distant memory and the Falcons are now fighting just to remain relevant in the NFC playoff picture. The Vikings lost control of the NFC North with a loss to the Packers last week and have yet to beat a team with a winning record. That could be good news for the Falcons....
The Saints turned their bye week into bye-bye week for defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, who was fired after the worst unit in the league was gouged by the Redskins two weeks ago. Several teams had an immediate resurgence after making changes in their coaching staffs and the Saints are hopeful new coordinator Dennis Allen can do the same for the struggling unit....
Cincinnati returns to its usual Sunday time slot after playing three straight primetime games. The Bengals are thankful for that after dropping the past two and seeing their lead in the AFC North sliced to two games over the charging Steelers. St. Louis is still looking for an offense to complement a defense considered one of the best in the NFL....
Don’t look now but Sunday’s contest has plenty of bearing on the NFC East standings. The Giants gained some ground last week and didn’t even play. New York can improve its first place standing with a win and has given the Redskins fits in recent meetings, going 5-0 SU and ATS in the last five confrontations....
Tampa Bay won consecutive games for the first time since 2013 and reached the elusive .500 mark behind the stellar play of Jameis Winston, who directed the Bucs to 521 yards of offense in a thrashing of the Eagles last week. Tampa Bay has the same record as Seattle in the NFC and appears to be trending up with six games remaining....
Heading into Week 12 of the 2015 NFL season, there was only one time in the Super Bowl era that a team was 10-0 and was an underdog in a game. Now, we're seeing it happen for the second time. The Carolina Panthers have won 14 regular season games in a row, but they've opened as underdogs and could reasonably close that way as well against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day....
There are few traditions in all of sports like the Detroit Lions kicking off all of the festivities of a great day of NFL football at home on Thanksgiving Day.This year is no exception, though the game could prove to be an awfully interesting one against the Philadelphia Eagles....
Maybe it's okay to relax at the Frozen Tundra after all. The Green Bay Packers had lost three games in a row prior to last week, but they did what they had to do in Minneapolis, taking out the Vikings to get back atop the NFC North. If they do what is again expected of them on Thursday against the Chicago Bears, you can bet that once again, Aaron Rodgers and the gang will be looked upon as the most dangerous team in the NFC....
It’s not easy to keep the spotlight off Cam Newton and the undefeated Panthers, but if someone is going to steal the illuminating effects it would be Tony Romo. The Cowboys welcomed back their quarterback and put an end to their seven-game losing streak with a win over the Dolphins, and handing Carolina its first loss would make the rest of the NFC East squirm with uneasiness....
The Lions got the message after a front office and coaching staff shakeup a few weeks back, putting together consecutive wins behind a strong defensive performance. Given the Lions have little chance of making the postseason, they are playing their way out of a potential top-five draft pick with the struggling Eagles coming to town....
The Packers jumped back into a share of the NFC North lead with a thrashing of the Vikings Sunday, putting to rest all the questions about what’s wrong with Green Bay. We know what’s wrong with the Bears – they can’t beat the Packers. Chicago has lost the past four meetings, including the season opener when they failed to cover as six-point dogs....
