Week 8 Wise Guy Picks

Week 8 Wise Guy Picks

It was another kiss your sister type of week for the Wise Guy Picks after cashing in with the Vikings and Redskins, but losing with the Chiefs and Bears. In this day and age of betting on the NFL, everyone wants to know where the sharp money is and what number they got in at. Most public bettors never get to reap in the value of a sharp bettor. Often times, the two are butting heads but not always. Sometimes they’re in line with one another. The purpose of this piece is to highlight the games of the week where public picks are facing off with wise guy picks at online sportsbooks.

LAST WEEK: 2-2 ATS / YTD 12-5 ATS

New York vs. Detroit

Public – Giants ( +7 )
Wise Guys – Giants ( +7.5 )

With Kerryon Johnson more or less done for the season and Saquon Barkley set to partake in game No. 2 since returning from his high ankle sprain, neither public nor sharp bettors want anything to do with the Lions laying any type of chalk in this matchup. Nearly 90 percent of the bet count and 91 percent of the money has flooded in on the visiting G-Men. If things don’t change, New York will be one of the bigger liabilities for online sportsbooks in Week 8.

Los Angeles vs. Chicago

Public – Chargers ( +4 )
Wise Guys – Chargers ( +6 )

The wise guy picks were all over the Bears in last week’s home tilt against the Saints. Mitchell Trubisky once again stunk out loud which allowed for New Orleans to pull away in the second half against a fatigued Bears defense. Out for revenge, sharp bettors hit the Bolts at the open and public bettors picked up the scraps at a lesser price. Should the line continue to plummet, Chicago money will show as poorly LA’s failed to live up to expectations.

Cincinnati vs. Los Angeles

Public – Bengals ( +13.5 )
Wise Guys – Rams ( -10 )

Though wise guys were all over Sean McVay and the Rams when the opening line hit the board -10, a potential middle scenario has surfaced now that LA has been steamed all the way up to -13.5. Public bettors missed that train, but have since hit the Bengals plus the points with the belief that Jared Goff and company just might take it easy on Cincinnati with the bye up ahead in Week 9. Either way, it would be pretty catastrophic if the game landed 11-13. It’s not a good omen that linemakers are banking on Cincinnati showing up!

Oakland vs. Houston

Public – Raiders ( +7 )
Wise Guys – Texans ( -6.5 )

Sharp bettors made a mint fading the Raiders on the “Frozen Tundra” last week, and they’re back for a second helping in Week 8 with Jon Gruden’s squad paying a visit to Houston to conclude their arduous six-week road trip. Being away from the comforts of Oakland for so long might’ve played a role in the team’s second half collapse at Green Bay, and that’s something wise guys are banking on continues in this matchup. However, public bettors have simply been too enticed by getting a full touchdown with the Silver and Black. Because of it, online sportsbooks currently need the wise guys to get paid off.

Miami vs. Pittsburgh

Public – Dolphins ( +14.5 )
Wise Guys – Dolphins ( +17 )

Another Week 8 matchup that finds both public and sharp bettors aligned with one another is the finale between the Dolphins and Steelers on Monday Night Football; only sharps bet into the market at its high point while the public are once again bottom feeders. At the time of this writing, next to nothing had been wagered on Mike Tomlin’s squad who takes to its home field fully refreshed off a bye. Should this scenario continue, online sportsbooks will be rooting for one of the best defenses in the league at forcing turnovers against Ryan Fitzpatrick - is there a better job in this world than booking bets?
