Week 7 Ugly Dog Picks

Week 7 Ugly Dog Picks

If you want to win money betting NFL games then you need to be willing to take teams no one else wants to bet. I refer to these teams as ugly dogs and you really have to hold your nose sometimes when you bet on them, but history has shown that going against the public works. We bounced back from our first losing week of the season with a strong 3-1 record in Week 6 to improve the overall record to 15-9 on the season. Let’s take a look at the Week 7 Ugly Dog picks.

Week 7 Ugly Dog Picks

Miami Dolphins +16.5 at Buffalo Bills

The Dolphins had their chance to get their first win of the season last week but they failed on a two-point conversion attempt and lost at home to the Washington Redskins. Miami is a bad team that is trying to lose but at least last week they showed some heart when Ryan Fitzpatrick came into the game in relief of Josh Rosen. Head coach Brian Flores is sticking with Rosen at quarterback, not that it matters much, as the Dolphins have a pathetic offense and a weak defense. The Bills are coming off their bye and look like they have a real chance to get one of the Wild Card spots in the AFC Playoffs this season. We have had no success at all on the Dolphins so far this season and this one is really ugly, but that is the idea with this column, so we’ll take the points with the Dolphins as an ugly dog.

Cincinnati Bengals +3.5 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Bengals showed a little bit of heart last week, but their defense didn’t stop the run and they were beaten by the Ravens. The good news for us is that they did cover the spread as an ugly dog. They will be facing a Jacksonville team that figures to run the ball down their throat in this one, but at least the Bengals are at home and they are getting more than a field goal. We’ll take the points with the Bengals as an ugly dog.

Washington Redskins +10 vs. San Francisco 49ers

The Redskins got their first win on the season last week, but it wasn’t pretty and they are still a bad team. They now head home to face the unbeaten 49ers and their ferocious defense. The only thing that might help us in this one is that the 49ers simply have to have a letdown after playing the Rams last week. Whether it will matter is the question, as the Redskins have a weak offense and a poor defense. The Redskins do look a little bit better in terms of organization now that Jay Gruden is gone, but they still have problems on both sides of the ball and there is no doubt that San Francisco is a very good team. This is another ugly one, but we’ll take the points with the Redskins.

New York Jets +9.5 vs. New England Patriots

This is technically an ugly dog play because the Jets are 1-4, while the Patriots are 6-0, but New York looked much better last week with Sam Darnold under center as they beat Dallas. There is no question that the Jets are a much better team with Darnold under center and they played hard in the win over Dallas. New England really didn’t look that great last week against the Giants but their defense was dominant. The question in this one is whether or not the Jets win last week was a portent of things to come or whether they just beat a badly overrated Dallas team. Regardless, the Patriots are unbeaten and the Jets have just one win, so we’ll take the Jets as an ugly dog.
