Washington Redskins Odds to Make the Playoffs

Washington Redskins Odds to Make the Playoffs

Through eight weeks of the 2018-19 season, the Washington Redskins stood 6-2 and looked to be the cream of the NFC East crop. Then Alex Smith suffered a nasty season-ending leg injury that could ultimately end his career. The squad nosedived immediately after managing just one win the rest of the way to finish third in the division standings. Case Keenum was brought in during the offseason to help alleviate the obnoxious quarterback play the offense received once Smith went down, and the Skins also selected Dwayne Haskins with the No. 15 pick in the NFL Draft. Unfortunately for whoever resides under center, the wide receiver corps leaves much to be desired. With that, it’s going to be a steep uphill climb for the offense to get much of anything done. Thankfully, Washington looks to be pretty stout on the other side of the ball – especially up front – which will allow it to stick close in a number of games before likely coming up short. Either way, it’s a rebuilding season in D.C. and the Skins odds of going to the playoffs at online sportsbooks reflect just that.

Washington Redskins Odds

Only Miami and Cincinnati have longer odds to win Super Bowl LIV than that of the Redskins who check in with a bloated 225-1 offering. That said, no other team in the NFC has longer odds to win the conference ( +10500 ). In layman’s terms, linemakers don’t expect Jay Gruden’s squad making much of any noise this upcoming season; neither should you! With a 6-game season win total and heavy juice riding the under, the Redskins are pretty much tabbed for a last place finish in the NFC East that should once again lead to a top end draft pick come 2020.

It’s a shame too because the pieces are in place for this squad to be a formidable bunch provided everything fell into place. This whole Trent Williams holdout is really unfortunate. Though the Redskins have very little when it comes to pass catchers, it’s got a nice looking backfield with Adrian Peterson, Derrius Guice, Samaje Perine and Chris Thompson all electric in their own ways. Especially the second-year rookie who had his season cut prematurely short due to an ACL tear last preseason. With Williams, Washington would boast one of the best run blocking front walls the NFL has to offer. Without him, you’re guess is as good as anyone else’s as to the type of production Washington gets from its excelled crop of running backs.

In or Out?

I’m bullish on this Washington defense from a fantasy perspective, but its ability to sustain dominance over a full 16 game regular season schedule would depend on the offense being able to move the chains and put points on the board. Sans Williams, I’m doubtful that occurs. With him, the Redskins would be the cover boys for running dogs with a defense that can shut the run down, get after the quarterback and shorten games as much as possible with a punishing ground assault. Without being able to bank on a serviceable running game, I find it hard to fathom Washington having much luck navigating through what looks to be on paper a pretty tough schedule.

Along with running up against the Cowboys and Eagles twice, it gets what I expect to be a much improved AFC East along with the NFC North that has three teams capable of qualifying for the postseason. While I can’t recommend taking the juicy +490 return to make the playoffs, I will suggest attacking the NFL betting lines with the Redskins on a weekly basis provided the offense is successfully able to hit the ground running. If Guice has the breakout campaign many fantasy footballers envision, this squad could turn the division upside down. That’s a huge “If” however!
