San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks TNF Week 15 Lines

49ers at Seahawks TNF Week 15 Betting

It might be next man up once again for the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football. Quarterbacks Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo have already suffered season-ending injuries, and now Brock Purdy is questionable to play against the Seattle Seahawks with an oblique injury he sustained in last week’s dominant win over Tampa Bay. If Purdy cannot play, journeyman Josh Johnson will get the start under center even though he was just signed off Denver’s practice squad last Tuesday.

The San Francisco 49ers can win the NFC West with a victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football. San Francisco has won six straight games after a 3-4 start and defeated Seattle back in Week 2. Meanwhile, the Seahawks have lost three of their last four games and could miss out on the postseason after a strong start to the year. These NFC West rivals will meet on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at 8:15 p.m. ET on Prime Video from Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington.

Odds Analysis

Currently, there are no NFL betting odds for the Thursday Night Football showdown between the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers. As we get more information surrounding Brock Purdy’s status, the oddsmakers will post a line on this game.

San Francisco 49ers

This could be a really tough spot for the San Francisco 49ers if Josh Johnson has to start the game. Johnson has been on San Francisco’s roster four times during his career. He was on the team in 2012 and 2014, and he was an emergency quarterback for Kyle Shanahan during the tail end of the 2020 season. However, he has never seen regular season game action with the Niners. Meanwhile, Brock Purdy has only played in two games with the team, but he has completed 45 of 67 passes for 461 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions.

San Francisco might be without top receiver Deebo Samuel as well. He reportedly sustained a high ankle sprain in Sunday’s win over Tampa Bay, and if that’s the case, he could miss the rest of the regular season. Brandon Aiyuk has been very good and is flirting with a 1,000-yard campaign though, and George Kittle is an excellent dual threat tight end.

The 49ers have the best defense in the NFL. San Francisco ranks first overall in scoring defense (15.2 PPG), total defense (286.8 YPG), and rush defense (3.4 YPC and 75.1 YPG). Their defensive line and secondary are banged up with several players out, but they still keep rolling along under defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans.

Seattle Seahawks

Geno Smith is having a great season with Seattle. Smith is completing 71.5% of his passes for 3,433 yards (8.0 YPA) with 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions. D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett have shined as the top receivers in this offense, and both players should have more than 1,000 receiving yards.

Unfortunately, the Seahawks lost top running back Rashaad Penny early in the season due to injury. Rookie Kenneth Walker III was surprisingly effective after stepping up and filling the void, but he was injured two weeks ago against the Los Angeles Rams and didn’t take the field in last week’s loss to Carolina. Travis Homer and Tony Jones Jr. could get the carries in place of Walker and Dallas.

Seattle has one of the worst defenses in the NFL. The Seahawks rank 30th in scoring defense (25.7 PPG) and 28th in total defense (378.7 YPG). The run defense is a bottom five unit, so this front seven could have quite the task ahead of it on Thursday night. To make matters worse, Shelby Harris will miss the game and Al Woods is questionable.

49ers at Seahawks Free Pick

If any team is plug and play, it’s San Francisco. The 49ers have played several different quarterbacks for brief stints in Kyle Shanahan’s tenure, and Johnson could be next in line. The signal callers in this offense aren’t asked to do much alongside a dominant ground game, so the Niners are the pick even if Purdy doesn’t play.
