Philadelphia Eagles Season Win Total Lines - NFL Odds

Philadelphia Eagles Season Win Total

The Philadelphia Eagles were sounding red alerts even before their respective 2020-21 campaign kicked off. The selection of Jalen Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft let it be known that upper brass was worried about the $128M investment they threw at Carson Wentz in June the prior year. If NFL bettors read between the lines, they walked away with one of the easier ticket cashes on the season win total odds after the Eagles tripped and stumbled their way to a poor 4-11-1 record that came nowhere close to surpassing their 9.5-game win total. Much has changed since the clock hit double zeroes in their 20-14 loss to the Washington Football Team in Week 17. Nick Sirianni is now calling the shots in the “City of Brotherly Love” and Jalen Hurts now has the QB1 reins all to himself. While much younger overall, the clean slate might just be what the doctor ordered for this franchise. Remember, Philly was still in the thick of the playoff race even after committing a number of boneheaded plays and turning the ball over with reckless abandon. I think the additions made far outweigh the subtractions. It likely won’t be enough to compete for NFC East honors or a trip to the playoffs, but linemakers have made a gross under adjustment with their current win total which has me leaning towards hitting the over at an attractive plus-money return.

Philadelphia Eagles Season Win Total: 7 Under -128

The Eagles saw their three-year run of qualifying for the playoffs come to an end last season. Mostly due to horrific play from Wentz in the first half of the season before being benched for Hurts the second half. Then the second round draft pick took his lumps but also showcased his skills to show Eagles fans what he could bring to the table moving forward. Linemakers don’t expect good things in Sirianni’s debut as head coach evidenced by the win total hitting the board at 6.5 for 2021-22. While it’s been bet up half a game in most places, there are still some 6.5s out there with ridiculous juice attached to the over. If bullish on Philly exceeding expectations, I’d seek out the best rate of return at 7. Keep in mind though; the Eagles have failed to surpass their win total each of the last three seasons and the number to beat has lessened every passing year.

Philadelphia Eagles Season Win Total Analysis

You can’t help but come away impressed with the offensive firepower the Eagles bring to the gridiron this season. It all starts with Hurts who went on to throw for 1,061 yards and a 6:4 TD/INT ratio while adding another 354 yards and three scores on the ground in his rookie campaign. Miles Sanders is still the bell cow in the backfield. He underperformed a season ago, but wasn’t utilized correctly much to the dismay of his fantasy and prop supporters. Backing him is now Kerryon Johnson who you can say the same thing about throughout his stay in Detroit. The all-everything Boston Scott also remains on the roster but will be pushed for reps by rookie Kenneth Gainwell who sat last season out at Memphis after roasting the Tigers record books for two seasons. Then there’s the reigning Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith; enough said! He’ll join a very young wide receiver corps led by holdovers Jalen Reagor, Travis Fulgham and Greg Ward Jr. If the mix of veterans and youngsters along the offensive line remain healthy and productive, Philadelphia’s offense could be one of the more surprising stories of the NFL betting season.

As great the offense can possibly be, I don’t have high hopes for an aging defense that ranked out below average across the board a season ago. Not much was done in the offseason to shore it up either save for bringing in veteran Ryan Kerrigan and some more back-seven help. If Philly is to surpass its win total, it will be because of the offense outscoring the opposition than the defense keeping it in check.

The schedule could see the team really struggle out of the gates as well. They open with a likely shootout in Atlanta, and then host a 49ers team out for revenge after affording Philly its first win of the year on Sunday Night Football as decided home chalk. From there, it’s the Cowboys on the road, Chiefs at home, Panthers on the road and defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers in the Linc. If the Eagles can somehow manage to score two wins through Week 6, they’ll be in great shape to exceed expectations moving forward as the schedule lightens up immensely. Sharp Football Stats has their schedule ranked out as the third easiest in the league based on forecasted win totals. They also got a huge bye in Week 14 before taking on four straight divisional opponents with three of those tilts coming at home. Though a new coaching staff has taken over and Hurts will be the starter for the series opener, I expect the offense to lead this team to some unforeseen success in 2021-22.
