Philadelphia Eagles 2023 Regular Season Win Total Odds

Philadelphia Eagles 2023 Regular Season Win Total

Though their projected 2023 win total isn’t the highest in the NFC, the Philadelphia Eagles are the favorite to win the conference championship again. Just three years ago the Eagles won four games and finished last in the NFC East. Things flipped under Nick Sirianni with nine wins in 2021 followed by a franchise record 14 wins a season ago. The club inked Jalen Hurts to big extension but lost a number of players that contributed to the Super Bowl run along with both coordinators to head coaching jobs.

Keeping some continuity won’t be easy with the turnover, but the Eagles boasted a deep and talented roster a season ago with carryover helping to stabilize the franchise. Hurts emerged as a leader helping the offense produce the third-most yards per game while the defense allowed the second-fewest and set a NFL record with 70 sacks. Duplicating those numbers will be tough but if all goes well the Eagles should still rank highly as they chase their win total of 11.

Hurts had what some considered an MVP-type season in 2022, but the defense was the real story. The Eagles boasted the No. 1 ranked pass defense allowing an average of only 179.8 yards and ranked second overall giving up 301.5 yards per contest. They were susceptible to the run though that played into their hands as they led a majority of the time and were more than happy to let teams burn clock.

Opponents didn’t want to throw the football against Philly’s aggressive front. Four players recorded at least 11 sacks and the Eagles established a NFL single season record with 70 sacks. Haason Reddick led the club with 16 sacks, the second-most among all players. Javon Hargrave, Josh Sweat and Brandon Graham each had 11. The group did suffer a loss, though, with the departure of Hargrave. It’s also up to new coordinator Sean Desai to get the most out of this group much like Jonathan Gannon did.

Playing solid but not spectacular likely cost Hurts some votes in the MVP race. His numbers across the board improved from the previous season with 3,701 passing yards on 66.5 completion percentage with 22 TDs and just six interceptions. Additionally he rushed for 760 yards and 13 scores as the Eagles produced a league high 32 rushing TDs. It’s hard to imagine the Eagles being as good on both sides of the football, but make no mistake that even with the turnover they have one of the most talented rosters in the league.

The Giants and Cowboys made the playoffs last season and should be contending once again. And I expect the team formerly known as the Redskins will be better. The division isn’t going to be a cakewalk and playing a first place schedule has the Eagles going against Kansas City, Buffalo and San Francisco in consecutive weeks after their bye. Getting to 12 wins is going to be challenging but a favorable final four weeks could be what puts them over the top.
