Ryan Garcia vs Emmanuel Tagoe Betting Odds

Ryan Garcia -1450

Emmanuel Tagoe +737

Although Tagoe is a former world champion, he is a heavy underdog to Garcia per the boxing betting odds. If you are unfamiliar with betting on boxing, you would have to bet $1450 on Garcia to win $100 at this price. A $100 bet on Tagoe would return a handsome profit of $737 if he were to win, so there will likely be some bettors backing the longshot closer to the fight.

Ryan Garcia vs Emmanuel Tagoe Preview

There’s been a growing buzz surrounding Ryan Garcia. The Californian is only 23 years old, but he is already ranked among the top five lightweights according to multiple outlets. That’s because of the elite power he has showed as both an amateur and professional fighter, leading to him quickly being picked up by Golden Boy Promotions.

Garcia’s first four fights were south of the border in Tijuana because he was just 17 years old. He scored three quick knockouts in his first three bouts, but he needed to go four rounds to score a unanimous decision in his last fight. Garcia won his next 11 fights by knockout though, and nine of those 11 knockouts came in the first two rounds.

His only rough stretch came in mid-2018 when he needed the full 10 rounds to get past Jayson Velez in order to win the WBC-NABF and WBO-NABO super featherweight titles.

Garcia had to settle for a majority decision victory against Carlos Morales in his next fight four months later, but he has been much better since moving up in weight class and tacking on some weight.

Garcia scored early knockouts of Braulio Rodriguez and Jose Lopez before a very impressive first-round knockout of Romero Duno to win the WBC Silver lightweight belt on the undercard of a Canelo Alvarez fight in November 2019. He defended the belt with a first-round knockout of Francisco Fonseca on Valentine’s Day in 2020, and his lone fight since that point was a seventh-round TKO of Luke Campbell in January of last year. He was supposed to fight twice since that point, but he took time off for mental health reasons and to heal a hand injury.

Emmanuel Tagoe lost his first professional fight 18 years ago and has never forgot the loss. Tagoe has won 32 straight bouts since that defeat, spreading his name outside of his native Ghana and into the wide boxing world. He has claimed the WBA International lightweight belt multiple times, and he won the IBO lightweight belt with a unanimous decision victory over Mzonke Fana on December 2, 2016. Tagoe retained that belt with a 10th round TKO of David Saucedo before having the title taken away after refusing to face mandatory challenger Fedor Papazovhas.

Although Tagoe has won 32 consecutive fights, he is a big underdog because he doesn’t have a lot of power. Most of his wins have come by decision and four of those victories were by a majority decision. That includes his last fight against Mason Menard in November 2020. Tagoe has only entered the ring one time in the last 33 months, so we don’t know what we’ll see from him on Saturday.
