Roman Gonzalez vs Julio Cesar Martinez Betting Odds

Roman Gonzalez -125

Julio Cesar Martinez -105

This is a relatively even fight in terms of the boxing betting odds. Roman Gonzalez is a slight favorite, so a $125 bet on Chocolatito would return $100 if he were to win. Since Martinez is seen as virtually equal in skill, he is not plus-odds by the boxing betting lines.

As the fight nears, there will be decision betting too. You will be able to bet on whether the fight is decided by KO, TKO, or decision, and you can bet on which boxer will win the fight in that fashion as well.

Roman Gonzalez vs Julio Cesar Martinez Preview

Although Chocolatito has 53 fights to his name, he is only 34 years old. Roman Gonzalez has been busy since turning pro in July 2005 just after his 18th birthday, and he knocked out his first 16 opponents to win multiple titles in Nicaragua and Latin America.

Gonzalez won his first major title by traveling to Japan and knocking out Yutaka Niida in the fourth round to win the WBA minimumweight belt. He successfully defended that title three times before making the jump to light flyweight, and he knocked out Francisco Rosas in the second round to claim the interim WBA light flyweight title before being promoted to regular champion. Chocolatito proceeded to defend that belt five times, and then he made another move up in weight.

He returned to Japan and scored a ninth-round TKO of Akira Yaegashi to win the WBC and The Ring flyweight titles and ran his record to a sterling 40-0 in the process. We saw Gonzalez defend those belts four times before he made one more jump in weight class. In September 2016, he scored a unanimous decision victory over Carlos Cuadras to win the WBC super flyweight title.

That led to Gonzalez being 46-0, but he had trouble at that point. He lost the WBC super flyweight belt to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai by majority decision in his first title defense, and he was knocked out by Rungvisai in their rematch. Gonzalez won the WBA super flyweight title in February 2020, but he lost the belt with a split decision defeat at the hands of Juan Carlos Estrada last March.

Julio Cesar Martinez is one of those rare boxers to reach this level that lost his debut fight. Martinez dropped his very first fight, but he has not lost since that point. He won 14 straight fights before a third-round knockout of Charlie Edwards was later ruled a no contest. However, he won the WBC flyweight belt four months later with a ninth-round TKO of Cristofer Rosales.

Martinez has defended that title successfully three times. He took on McWilliams Arroyo with the belt on the line last November, but the bout was called a no contest after an accidental head clash. He is an inch taller than Gonzalez, and has a little longer reach, giving him more than a puncher’s chance.
