We saw him easily dispatch of Sofiane Takoucht by second-round TKO in October 2019, but it’s clear he looked past Lara in his ninth round TKO loss.
Mauricio Lara was a relatively unknown fighter prior to his upset win over Warrington. He lost his very first professional fight, and he suffered a first-round knockout at the hands of a foe in a Holiday Inn just three years ago. However, Lara has fared much better since that defeat, proving he can take on the best featherweights in the business.
Lara has won 12 straight fights ahead of this rematch. He ended 10 of those 12 fights early, showcasing his stopping power in those wins. The Mexico native dealt two other boxers their first defeats before his upset of Warrington, providing a preview of what was to come.
In their first fight, Lara pushed the pace from the outset. He was the aggressor from the opening bell, and he kept coming forward even after Warrington opened a cut above his eye.
