Joes Pedraza (29-4, 14 KOs), from Caguas, Puerto Rico, is a two-weight world champion who has fought many of this generation’s top fighters since capturing the IBF junior lightweight crown in June 2015. He moved up the ranks of the junior welterweight division in 2019 and rebounded from a loss to Jose Zepeda by beating Mikkel LesPierre, 2008 U.S Olympian Javier Molina, and previously unbeaten Julian Rodriguez. Pedraza had his momentum stopped in March when he dropped a close decision to former unified world champion Jose Ramirez.

That’s the perfect recipe for a great fight.” Pedraza said to the media, “I know that a convincing victory against an opponent of Commey’s caliber will put me back in contention to capture that coveted world title opportunity. Despite what happened in my last fight, I still have my sights set on being crowned world champion at 140 pounds. I’m still chasing my goal of becoming a three-division world champion.”
Richard Commey (30-4, 27 KOs), is one of Ghana’s most accomplished fighters. He won the IBF lightweight world title in February 2019 with a second round stoppage over Isa Chaniev. He lost the title to Teofimo Lopez in December of 2019. Commey came back to knock out Jackson Martinez in six rounds and lost a decision to pound-for-pound legend Vasiliy “Loma” Lomachenko. After 34 fights fighting as a lightweight, Commey now moves up to 140 pounds in hopes of winning a second world title.

The question in this fight is whether or not Commey is ready to move up in weight. Commey showed a lot of power in the lightweight division but whether that power will translate to super lightweight is in question. We know that Pedraza doesn’t have a lot of power, as he has just 14 knockouts and it doesn’t figure that Commey will have as much power moving up in weight, so this fight seems likely to go the distance and taking the rounds to go over seems like the best bet.
