Callum Smith vs Pawel Stepien Boxing Odds

Callum Smith vs Pawel Stepien Boxing Betting

After losing a unanimous decision to Canelo Alvarez in December 2020, Callum Smith has seen his star wane to a small degree. Smith (29-1 with 21 knockouts) lost his super middleweight titles to Alvarez on that night in San Antonio, and he misses the feeling of gold around his waist. As the No. 1 lightweight contender, a victory over Pawel Stepien would likely lead to Smith getting a chance to take on Artur Beterbiev later in 2023. Stepien (18-0-1 with 12 knockouts) is unbeaten, but he is an enormous underdog by the boxing betting odds.

Callum Smith vs Pawel Stepien Preview

Callum Smith joined older brothers Paul Smith, Stephen Smith, and Liam Smith as professional boxers. All four brothers were successful and both Paul and Stephen medaled at the Commonwealth Games, but Callum has proven to be the best of the bunch. He knocked out Patrick Mendy in the first round to win the English super middleweight title in just his eighth fight, capping off a string of six straight first-round knockouts.

Smith went on to secure first-round knockout victories over Rocky Fielding for the British super middleweight title and the WBC Silver super middleweight title and Hadillah Mohoumadi for the European super middleweight belt. He continued to rack up wins and minor titles until he took part in the World Boxing Super Series with the WBA and The Ring super middleweight titles up for grabs. This was when he was pushed the most, as he only defeated Erik Skoglund and Nieky Holzken by unanimous decision, but he was able to knock out George Groves in the seventh round in the final to claim both belts.

The Englishman went on to defend both titles with comfortable wins over Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam and John Ryder before his bout with Canelo. He was walloped in that fight and lost a convincing unanimous decision, but he knocked out his last two opponents within the first four rounds.

As for Pawel Stepien, he turned pro back in December 2015. Stepien has only fought in his native Poland throughout his career, so this will be a huge step up for him. Although he is undefeated, he was only able to win a split decision from Marek Matyja and a majority decision over Ezequiel Osvaldo Maderna. This will easily be Stepien’s toughest test to date though.

Smith should have no trouble winning this fight due to his experience and his physical advantages. He is an inch taller than Stepien, and his reach is three inches longer. That combined with his prodigious power will make it extremely difficult for Stepien to land the punches he needs in order to win this fight.
