Boxing Odds – Joet Gonzalez vs. Shakur Stevenson Betting Preview

Joet Gonzalez vs. Shakur Stevenson Boxing Predictions

The fact that they don’t like each other only makes the upcoming World Boxing Organization world featherweight title bout between Joet Gonzalez and Shakur Stevenson even more highly anticipated. Add to the fact that neither man has ever lost a professional fight and you get one of the most eagerly anticipated fights of the year. Gonzalez has been derided for feasting on cupcakes. His resume does not include a lot of quality competition, at least according to the experts and Stevenson himself. Both men have been trading verbal barbs heading into what looks to be a promising championship showdown.

The vacant World Boxing Organization world featherweight title will be on the line when Joet Gonzalez (23-0, 14 knockouts) will face Shakur Stevenson (12-0, 7 knockouts) on October 26, 2019 at the Reno Sparks Convention Center in Reno, Nevada. ESPN+ will televise this championship fight that is scheduled for 12 rounds.

Fight Preview

Although he is quite confident about his chances in the fight and has been dismissive of the skills of Joet Gonzalez, Shakur Stevenson was not entirely negative about his upcoming opponents. Stevenson did compliment Gonzalez on his skill set while at the same time pointing out that his level of competition has not been up to championship par.

“I think it’s a huge step up,” said Stevenson. “I don’t think he has faced this kind of competition. I feel like the highest person he fought was Rafael Rivera. And last I checked, [Rivera] said no to the fight with me.”

Keep in mind that Stevenson fought as an Olympic boxer for the United States in 2016 where he won a silver medal in Rio De Janeiro. Thus, the more critical eye set. Stevenson went on to say that Gonzalez will be a big step up for their upcoming championship fight on DAZN.

“Yeah, I feel like it’s a step up for me,” Stevenson said. “I feel like Joet is a great fighter. I feel like he got great defense, he puts pressure. He’s got some type of power, he say. I don’t know about that.”

Stevenson had little trouble in a recent fight against Christopher Diaz and is considered the best opponent that he has faced thus far. Stevenson is not sure whether or not Gonzalez is in the same class as Diaz.

“I’ve gotta wait and see,” Stevenson said. “I can’t just say he better than Diaz, without being in the ring with him. So, once I get in the ring with him October 26th, I’ll tell you whether he was better than Diaz. But either way, I’m gonna come out victorious.”

By contrast Gonzalez has had a tough training camp in preparation for this title bout against Stevenson.
”Camp has been tough, physically and mentally, and I feel it’s prepared me with everything I need to come out victorious on Oct. 26,” said Gonzalez. ”I feel like I pushed my body to its limits in all aspects. Going more rounds in training, sparring tough and bigger guys.”
Gonzalez made no bones about the fact that this fight is personal.
“No, this fight is definitely personal,” the underdog stated. ”He does a lot of talking about myself and my family and has even posted some things. So yeah, this fight is personal. Yes, most definitely. It’s a fight I need to win and a fight I will win.”

Boxing Betting Tips

With his Olympic pedigree and more impressive resume Stevenson has to be the pick in this bout. Gonzalez has not fought on this level of competition or high stakes.
