When it comes to being a name brand in boxing few fighters can match the name recognition of Danny Garcia. The multiple world champion from two different divisions has long been a favorite of fight fans and gamblers alike. Since his welterweight championship bout losses to Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter Garcia has been on a mission to get back his title belt. This time he will be facing Ivan Redkach, who is an aspiring contender that is not yet regarded as top tier. Showtime will present the World Boxing Council welterweight eliminator fight between Ivan Redkach (23-4-1, 18 knockouts) and Danny Garcia (35-2, 21 knockouts) from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on January 25, 2020. This bout is scheduled for 12 rounds.
Danny “Swift” Garcia brings the championship combination of power and skill when he goes up against the hard-hitting power puncher Ivan Redkach. Garcia is a natural draw for the Barclays Center where he set the record for the largest crowd to ever see a boxing match there (16,533). That was in his title bout loss to Keith Thurman. For Garcia this will be his eighth fight at this famed facility.
"Barclays Center fan-favorite Danny García is back in Brooklyn as he continues his quest for the top spot in the welterweight division," said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. "Danny has been in the biggest fights at Barclays Center and on January 25 there are sure to be fireworks when hard-hitting Ivan Redkach looks for a career-defining win.”
As for Garcia he is always thrilled to step into the ring at Barclays Center.
"I'm very excited to be headlining another Showtime card and to go back to Barclays Center, my home away from home," said García. "I can't wait to step in the ring in Brooklyn and give fans the Danny García show. I watched a few of Redkach's recent fights and he had a great knockout win over two-time champion Devon Alexander. So, I know he's a tough fighter and competitor who I expect to bring the best out of me, and he's someone who deserves this opportunity. But January 25 is tax season, so I'm going to have to tax him and pay him with a reality check."
Garcia is one of the many great boxers from the Philadelphia area where the fight game is a staple of every day life. Garcia has big name wins against champions such as Lucas Matthysse. By contrast Garcia has also suffered highly controversial championship bout losses to Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter in which many observers and experts believe he actually won.
Redkach is eager for this once in a lifetime career changing opportunity.
"I'm very motivated to take a massive step in my career and get closer to becoming world champion against a strong and accomplished fighter like Danny García," said Redkach. "I have been to a lot of Danny's fights and now I get the chance to test myself against him. I am training very hard so that I am the best that I have ever been on January 25. I'm going to shock the boxing world just like I did against Devon Alexander. I've never been this hungry before and I'm confident I will win this fight."
