Indiana has lost three of its past four games and has now dropped to one of the bubble teams for the NCAA men’s basketball tournament....
Coach K is back and it looks like the Duke Blue Devils are too. Following an uncharacteristic stretch where they lost three of four, the Blue Devils are trending up with their coach on the bench and a roster of players that is getting healthy. And that’s not good news for the North Carolina Tar Heels, who have a slim lead at the top of the ACC standings. But the fierce rivalry always brings out the best in the teams and the first meeting of the season should be no different....
The Florida Gators are feeling good after a convincing blowout victory over top-10 foe Kentucky last time out. They must not soak in that victory too long as another SEC game awaits against the Georgia Bulldogs....
Off a huge come-from-behind overtime win that snapped the Kansas Jayhawks 51-game home win streak, the Iowa State Cyclones will close out their two-game road trip in Austin where they’ll run up against a Texas Longhorns squad that’s had their number in recent years. The Horns have toppled the Clones six of the last seven times they hosted this rivalry and will be favored to win their third straight in front of the hometown faithful....
The last time the Oklahoma Sooners won a game, it went into Morgantown and scored an 89-87 overtime victory against the West Virginia Mountaineers. The loss was a huge shock for those that backed the Huggy Bear’s kids who went off the board favored to win that game by 16.5 points. After just having their three game win streak snapped by Oklahoma State, the Mountaineers will invade Norman in an ornery mood looking to avenge that ghastly defeat....
The Michigan Wolverines find themselves planted directly on the NCAA Tournament bubble after falling at home to what’s proven to be a not so good Ohio State team. A terrible loss for sure, but it can all be swept under the rug if John Beilein’s kids can find a way to hand the streaking Michigan State Spartans a defeat on Super Tuesday. That will likely prove to be a heck of a chore with Sparty taking each of the last five skirmishes....
The LSU Tigers couldn’t make the NCAA Tournament with Ben Simmons last season and now they’re trying to stay out of the basement in the SEC. It’s going to take plenty of work down the stretch to do that. The Tigers haven’t won a game since the first week of the New Year and eight of the nine losses in that span have come by double-figures. Kentucky hasn’t played its best over the past week, but they shouldn’t have a problem disposing of LSU....
Playing in the Big East allows plenty of opportunities to collect wins over ranked opponents. The Georgetown Hoyas aren’t ranked in the AP top 25, but they have the most victories against ranked foes of any team in the conference that hasn’t garnered a national rating, and just knocked off Creighton and Butler in consecutive games last week. They’ll get another shot at taking down a ranked team when they visit the Villanova Wildcats on Tuesday....
Louisville has the higher ranking but must go on the road for this showdown. Virginia not only has the home court advantage but has also been a tad better in the conference. Both are aiming for the top of the standings but there are many teams pushing for it with so many top-tier squads facing off.The ACC has great games seemingly each week and this one should be added to the list....
Kansas is the better team but must go on the road for this one, and check often to see if any of the players are suspended. Jayhawks Lagerald Vick is under investigation for felony vandalism while star guard Josh Jackson is a person of interest in the case.Police are also investigating an alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl at an on-campus dorm in which the basketball team lives in. Carlton Bragg has been suspended indefinitely after being charged with possession of drug paraphernalia....
Indiana has had an interesting season, knocking off some elite teams but losing too many overall, and hopes to pull the upset. There’s no doubt as to who the two best teams in the Missouri Valley Conference are. The Illinois State Redbirds and the Wichita State Shockers have dominated the conference this season and barring a mammoth collapse from both sides, one of these two teams will win the regular season title. Illinois State is undefeated in conference after knocking off Wichita State in Normal in what was the lone Shockers MVC loss this year....
The Ohio State Buckeyes are in danger of missing the NCAA Tournament unless they start picking up wins in a hurry. Ohio State is 13-10 on the season and has struggled throughout the year, winning just three games in Big Ten play. Meanwhile, the Michigan Wolverines haven’t looked much better. Michigan was thought by some to have a chance to win the Big Ten this year, but now the team is hoping to just make the NCAA Tournament. A Wolverines victory here would be huge for their at-large chances....
The Creighton Bluejays have rebounded nicely after losing Maurice Watson Jr. and are once again considered the team most likely to topple Villanova for the Big East crown. Following an embarrassing loss to Georgetown, Creighton righted the ship with an easy victory against DePaul and then knocked off Butler in Indianapolis. The Bluejays will now look for a season sweep against the Xavier Musketeers on Saturday and a win will make it almost impossible for Xavier to catch them in the conference....
The Louisville Cardinals will look to pad their record on Saturday afternoon when they face the Boston College Eagles. Boston College is the second-worst team in the ACC this year and the only team with an overall losing record, sitting at 9-14. Meanwhile, Louisville is still in the hunt for a conference championship with only three losses in ACC play so far. This is a game that Louisville will be expected to win handily, but Boston College has already knocked off NC State and Syracuse in Boston this season so Louisville has to be careful....
The Georgia Bulldogs almost picked up a signature win on Tuesday night against the Kentucky Wildcats. Georgia battled Kentucky and took the No. 8 ranked Wildcats to overtime before succumbing to an excellent shooting performance from Malik Monk. This Georgia team will get another opportunity for a big win when they travel east to face the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday afternoon. A win for the Gamecocks would further strengthen their already strong case for an NCAA bid and keep them on pace with Kentucky in the SEC East....
This game was billed as showdown for the top spot in the Atlantic Coast Conference a little over a week ago. That was before the Notre Dame Fighting Irish lost three straight games to fall back to the middle of the pack. Meanwhile, the North Carolina Tar Heels bounced back from a road loss in Miami to and survived a scare from Pitt by holding on for a two-point victory on Monday. The Cincinnati Bearcats are one of the hottest teams in college basketball and have yet to lose in American Conference play. They will aim to keep it rolling in a conference showdown with the Connecticut Huskies....
The Maryland Terrapins keep answering every test during the Big Ten slate, and will head down the stretch atop the conference standings. Wisconsin is right there with them while Purdue is lurking, so a matchup against the Boilermakers this week is huge for both teams....
Davidson has a slightly inferior record but has the home court advantage so this may be a competitive matchup. Both teams enter playing well and each side is aiming to come away with a key victory in this showdown.
