AAF Betting

Looking to fill the void left by the departure of the NFL’s Chargers, the Alliance of American Football introduced the San Diego Fleet as one of eight charter members on May 29, 2018. The team will play in the Western Conference along with franchises located in Phoenix, Ariz., San Antonio, Tex., and Salt Lake City. The Fleet play their home games at San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU) Stadium, the same venue that housed the Chargers for 50 years.

On September 25, 2018 the team name and color scheme was revealed. Paying tribute to San Diego’s rich history and strong ties to the United States Navy, the Fleet was tabbed, keeping an AAF theme of team names that identify with the city. Battleship gray, yellow and silver gray are the team’s colors.

Former NFL coach and offensive coordinator Mike Martz was named the first head coach in Fleet history. Martz is best known for his time with the St. Louis Rams as the coordinator of the “Greatest Show on Turf” offense. In 1999 the Rams won their first, and only, Super Bowl title, beating Tennessee with an offense led by Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk and Isaac Bruce that scored 526 points.

Martz succeeded Dick Vermeil as the Rams head coach in 2000 and guided the team to the Super Bowl following the 2001 season. New England upset St. Louis that day. Martz posted a 53-32 record during his five-plus years as coach, taking a leave of absence in 2005 for personal reasons. He was relieved of his duties at the conclusion of the season. He returned to football as a head coach with the Fleet.

Teams in the AAF are given territorial rights to players from certain schools and professional teams to help stock their roster. The Fleet’s colleges include: USC, Stanford, Washington, Colorado, San Diego State, Fresno State, San Jose State, UNLV, Hawaii, UC Davis, Cal Poly, Sacramento State, San Diego, Azuza Pacific and Humboldt State. The NFL teams are the Rams, Chargers, Oakland Raiders and Detroit Lions, along with the British Columbia Lions in the CFL.

The Fleet had the first pick in the AAF Quarterback Draft, which it used to protect Josh Johnson. However, Johnson signed with Washington of the NFL during the 2018 season and never played with the team.

Built in 1967, SDCCU Stadium was the home of the Chargers until they left town in 2017. At full capacity the stadium seats 70,561 spectators and is also the home venue for the San Diego State Aztecs football team and the Holiday Bowl. It also served as home to MLB’s San Diego Padres from 1969 to 2003.

On February 17, 2019 an announced crowd of 20,019 witnessed the first pro football game at the stadium in over two years, and they saw the Fleet get its first ever victory, downing the Atlanta Legends 24-12 behind 104 rushing yards and two touchdowns from Ja’Quan Gardner. One week earlier the Fleet played the first game in franchise history, losing to San Antonio, 15-6, inside the Alamodome.
