Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies

The Triple Tiara doesn't get nearly as much publicity as the Triple Crown does, but perhaps it should. Smart horse racing bettors are going to realize that there's just as much potential in the two-year old fillies as there are in the two-year old colts.

The 2019 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies is the two-year old championship for the ladies, and it will take place on the card at Santa Anita Park on Friday, November 1. Watch the two-year old filly champion be crowned live on NBC Sports Network. Post-time is scheduled for 5:32 p.m. ET.

2019 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Field and Notes

The field for the 2019 race is a good one and there will likely be at least five horses that go off at single-digit odds. Wicked Whisper for trainer Steve Asmussen could go off as the favorite. The horse has won both of her previous starts and Asmussen won this race in 2011 with My Miss Aurelia.

Trainer Bob Baffert sends out Bast who looked good in winning the Del Mar Debutante and the Chandelier Stakes. Baffert has won this race twice with Silverbulletday in 1998 and Indian Blessing in 2007.

Trainer Mark Casse sends Perfect Alibi who has race five times with three wins and two second place finishes. She is a closer so the race needs to set up well for her to win.

Darkhorse contenders include British Idiom for trainer Brad Cox, Comical for trainer Doug O’Neill, and Lazy Daisy for O’Neill.

Longshots include Donna Veloce, KP Dreamin and Two Sixty.

Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Qualifying

Even though this is technically the "world championship" for two-year old fillies, there isn't a qualifying race held overseas. Though we certainly will see some international fillies in this field of up to 14, there are only four automatic qualifiers, all of which will get into the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies on American tracks.

Mike Smith leads the way in terms of jockey wins with three and we've seen a ton of two-time winners in terms of jockeys at the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, but we haven't seen anywhere near enough consistency to think that it's a trend in any way, shape or form for bettors to follow. Typically, the big time jockeys end up getting the winning mounts in such a big race with such a big payday for young fillies, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything either.

Clearly, the big man of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies is trainer, D. Wayne Lukas. Lukas is still training horses, but he isn't doing nearly as much of it now on a championship level as he did when he was racking up two-year old filly titles. He did win the race in 2014 with Take Charge Brandi, but that very well could end up being his last title at the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies.
