FIFA World Cup Group C Betting - Denmark vs. Australia Odds

Denmark is looking to make it to the knockout rounds of the World Cup for the first time since 2002. The Danes are in a good position following their first match of the tournament. They were able to best Peru and put themselves in the driver’s seat with the win. Now, a win over Australia in this match would all but guarantee them a spot in the Round of 16. The Socceroos showed that they were more than ready for the challenge in their match against France though.

The most anticipated sporting event in the world comes around once every four years, so don’t miss any of the 2018 World Cup. This match will take place at Cosmos Arena in Samara at 8 a.m. ET on Thursday, June 21, 2018. Catch every moment of the match live on FS1.

Australia was not highly regarded coming into the World Cup. This looked like the Socceroos weakest team yet and most analysts picked them to finish at the bottom of Group C after a lackluster performance in qualifying and friendlies. However, the Aussies played better than expected against France. They lost 2-1, but the two goals came from a dubious penalty and an unlucky touch that resulted in an own goal. Australia mostly shut down France’s vaunted attack and even created a few quality chances of their own.

As for Denmark, they were somewhat fortunate in their win over Peru. Denmark managed just three shots on goal, but one of those ended up finding the back of the net. The Danes weren’t in control for much of the match though. Peru largely had the better chances, but Kasper Schmeichel came up big with a stop on a penalty kick and the Danish back line held firm. Denmark’s luck will run out if they keep playing that, so they will need to play better here.

Player to Watch

The star for Denmark is Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen. Eriksen is coming off of a great season with Spurs, and his value has skyrocketed as a result. He played a big part in Tottenham’s top four finish, and he was largely Denmark’s only offensive option in qualifying.

Eriksen finished qualifying with eight goals and then came through in a big way in the playoff. In the second leg of their playoff tilt against Ireland, Eriksen notched a hat trick in order to give Denmark a victory. He set up the lone goal that Denmark tallied against Peru, and his play is vital to the team’s success. Eriksen is likely to play a part in any goal that Denmark scores.

Matchup to Watch

It’s going to be difficult for Australia to break through against Denmark’s defense. The Danes are known for being solid at the back, and they have a center back tandem that is the strength of the team. Simon Kjaer is one of the top center backs around and Andreas Christensen has a lot of potential. Christensen was subbed off late in the win against Denmark, but he should be healthy for this match.

Meanwhile, Australia likes to attack opponents through the air. They are known for their size and their prowess on set pieces, and that is usually how they threaten other teams. The Socceroos were the most dangerous through the air against France. That is unlikely to be the case against Denmark.

Scoring opportunities will be at a premium in this match. Neither side is going to be able to get much going on the attack. The difference maker will be Eriksen, although it’s entirely possible this match ends at 0-0 too. The under is a great bet.
