Odds Analysis

A shell-shocked Denmark lost its opening match to Finland following Eriksen’s collapse and resuscitation, and they fell to group winners Belgium in their second match. That meant they needed a big win over Russia and Belgium to knock off Finland in the final games of the Group Stage.

Those hopes were realized with a 4-1 win for the Danes over Russia coupled with a 2-0 win for Belgium over Finland. That sent Denmark through to the next round on goal differential while Russia and Finland were eliminated.

The Danes knocked off Wales in the first match of the knockout rounds. Denmark hammered Wales 4-0 thanks to a brace from Kasper Dolberg, but the game was not as lopsided as the final score appears to indicate. Possession was relatively even, and Wales nearly scored twice in the first half.

Patrik Schick ensured that the Czech Republic would make it out of the Group Stage with two incredible goals against Scotland in his country’s first match. A draw against Croatia in their second match ensured their survival even though they lost to England in the final match of the Group Stage.

The Czechs were extremely fortunate in their Round of 16 match with the Netherlands. They were outplayed for the first half, and it seemed inevitable the Dutch would strike first. However, Matthijs de Ligt’s red card completely turned the tide of the match, and Tomas Holes and Patrik Schick each scored a goal while the Czechs were up a man to send them through.

Schick is clearly the key to everything up top for the Czech Republic. He has four of the country’s five goals this Euros, and the Bayer Leverkusen forward has created some of the best moments of this tournament. There isn’t another really strong attacking option, so he will be asked to provide more of the same against Denmark.

The Danes have more options on the attack as Yussuf Poulsen has shined. He scored two goals in the Group Stage for Denmark, and he is expected to be back on the pitch after missing the Wales match due to injury. Kasper Dolberg was superb in his absence earlier this week, and both Martin Braithwaite and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg have played well too.

Matchup to Watch

It won’t be easy for Schick to find quality chances against Denmark. Captain Simon Kjaer is back and is a rock in the center of the defense, and both Jannik Vestergaard and Andreas Christensen have played very well. Kasper Schmeichel continues to play at a very high level, and the Czech’s don’t have a very potent attack.
