Tottenham Hotspur vs. Bayern Munich

Tottenham Hotspur are trying to avoid the situation they were in during last year’s Champions League. Spurs looked likely to miss the knockout rounds after stumbling through their first three matches, so they had to put together three great games and receive a little bit of luck to go on their magical run to the Champions League Final. They are in real danger of only taking one point out of their first two matches in Group B as favorites Bayern Munich come to London on Tuesday.

Don’t miss this Champions League match from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England at 3 p.m. ET on Tuesday, October 1, 2019. Catch every moment of the match live on TNT.

Odds Analysis

Bayern Munich had no trouble against Red Star Belgrade in their opening match of this year’s Champions League. The Bavarian behemoths fired 34 shots and 11 shots on frame against their Serbian counterparts, cruising to a 3-0 victory. Kingsley Coman opened the scoring in the 34th minute and Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller notched goals later in the match to give Bayern Munich the lead in Group B.

The defending Bundesliga champions have yet to lose a match this season, and they are favored per the soccer betting odds against Spurs on Tuesday.

Spurs are not off to a great start in any competition this season. Tottenham are 2-2-2 in the Premier League, and while they did well to earn a draw against Manchester City, they also lost very winnable matches against Newcastle United and Leicester City. They were bounced from the Football League Cup by League Two Colchester United earlier this week, and Spurs also suffered a tough setback in their first Champions League match.

Harry Kane and Lucas Moura put Spurs up 2-0 on Olympiakos in Greece, but they couldn’t hold on to the lead. Olympiakos stormed back scoring on both sides of the break and could have won the game outright in the closing minutes. The result left Spurs hanging their heads knowing what was ahead.

Key Injuries

Midfielder Leon Goretzka has been out for the last six weeks for Bayern Munich due to a hamstring injury, and forward Fiete Arp will miss this match due to a fractured bone in his foot. However, it appears that David Alaba will be back in action after he posted that he was back in training with the team on Twitter.

Midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has been out for the last couple weeks with a groin injury, and he won’t return to Spurs for at least another month. Fellow midfielder Ryan Sessegnon is listed as doubtful due to a thigh injury.

Matchup to Watch

Spurs have not been as effective up front as you would expect from a team with their attacking power. Kane, Moura, Son Heung-min, and Christian Eriksen just haven’t been as sharp as they have been the last couple seasons, and that has led to disappointment on the pitch.

Bayern can fluster this attack with excellent defenders like Alaba, Benjamin Pavard, and Joshua Kimmich, and Manuel Neuer remains one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Free Soccer Betting Pick

Anything other than a win for Spurs would make it unlikely for Tottenham to finish first in this group. Bayern Munich have already taken care of business, and they have an excellent track record in the Champions League Group Stage. I’m going to trust Tottenham to get it going just enough to get the win here. That will make Group B fun to watch over the next several weeks.

Champions League Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 2, Bayern Munich 1
