Champions League Round of 16 Betting Preview

All four Premier League teams made it into the knockout rounds of the 2019-20 Champions League, and England is trying to make the final an all-English affair once more. Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester City are in the Round of 16, and the two favorites to win this year’s competition are Liverpool and Manchester City according to the most recent Champions League betting odds. Both clubs are favored to get past their Round of 16 opponent next year.

Atletico Madrid +160
Liverpool FC +146
Draw +204
Over/Under 2 and 2.5

Atletico had the bad luck of drawing Liverpool in the Round of 16, but the Spanish club has a system designed to nullify offensive firepower. Diego Simeone has Atletico playing excellent defense once again, conceding just 10 goals in 18 La Liga matches. However, this team has really been missing Antoine Griezmann and Joao Felix is having a hard time carrying the standard on his own. Liverpool is likely to get a result in the Spanish capital and use that to become a significant favorite to advance to the quarterfinals.

Borussia Dortmund +193
Paris Saint-Germain +105
Draw +245
Over/Under 3

No one is particularly confident in Paris Saint-Germain. The French powerhouse is famous for crashing out of the Champions League in the quarterfinals or sooner, but this year’s team may have a different fate. They avoided their usual rough draw by beating Real Madrid for first place in Group A, earning the right to play a Borussia Dortmund team that only just snuck in the knockout rounds. Kylian Mbappe and Neymar are playing very well together, and Thomas Tuchel’s club may be ready to make a deep run after adding Mauro Icardi.

Tottenham Hotspur -106
Red Bull Leipzig +220
Draw +241
Over/Under 3

Many in England believe this will be a walkover for Tottenham, but Spurs have sputtered this year. Jose Mourinho is now in charge of matters, and this is a tougher than expected test. Red Bull Leipzig has done an excellent job acquiring and developing young talent over the years, and this team could be ready to break through. Spurs have been a mess in the back, and Leipzig have a star that can punish them in Timo Werner.

Atalanta -102
CF Valencia +219
Draw +230
Over/Under 2.5

Atalanta became the first team in Champions League history to make it to the knockout rounds after losing its first three matches, and the Italian club overcame a -4 goal differential to beat out Shakhtar Donetsk and Dinamo Zagreb for the second spot behind Manchester City in Group C. Atalanta play a wide open brand of football, and those unfamiliar with the club’s rise in Serie A will be delighted to watch an Italian side that flourishes on the attack. There have been almost four goals per game in Atalanta’s domestic matches this season, so this match could be very high scoring.

SSC Napoli +224
FC Barcelona -109
Draw +243
Over/Under 2.5 and 3

Barcelona are the second biggest favorites to advance to the quarterfinals per the Champions League futures odds. The Blaugrana had no trouble besting Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan in a difficult group to top the foursome, and Barca have a wealth of riches on the attack. The trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Griezmann aren’t lighting up scoreboards like we believed they would though, so Napoli could have a chance despite having a forgettable season in Serie A.

Chelsea FC +220
Bayern Munich -106
Draw +242
Over/Under 3

The German juggernauts are expected to rout Chelsea in the Round of 16 after winning all six of their Group Stage matches. Robert Lewandowski is shredding back lines with ease, but Niko Kovac’s dismissal has cast something of a pall over this club.

Real Madrid +155
Manchester City +133
Draw +236
Over/Under 3

This is the Round of 16 match that everyone will be amped to see. These two giants should not have met at this stage, but Real Madrid finished second in their group so one of these teams will be going home before the quarterfinals. Manchester City have a pedigree of underachieving in this competition surpassed only by PSG, while Real Madrid are the most decorated team in Champions League history. That should give Real Madrid poise to advance even though they are underdogs.

Olympique Lyon +316
Juventus -135
Draw +232
Over/Under 2.5

Juventus is the biggest favorite in the Round of 16. The team that was built to win the Champions League is having another stellar season, and Cristiano Ronaldo is in good form. Lyon made the most of advancing from a weak group, but they went just 2-2-2 and won’t hold the line against the Old Lady.
