Champions League Predictions

There will be a lot of familiarity in the fourth matchday of this year’s Champions League, as teams begin the second part of the round robin against the opponent they just faced two weeks ago. This Tuesday, Groups A, B, C, and D will take to the pitch, and the key battles continue to be in Group B and Group C. With apologies to the three-way slugfest between Porto, Schalke 04, and Galatasaray in Group D, most of the attention will be on the three-way battle between Liverpool, Napoli, and Paris Saint Germain in Group C, and the clash between Barcelona and Inter Milan in Group B.

The Champions League Group Stage will last from September 18 to December 2. There will be eight groups with four teams in each group, and the top two teams in each group will advance to the Round of 16. Check out all the action this week at BookMaker.

Paris Saint-Germain +121
Napoli +190
Draw +280
Over/Under 3

This match would have been a lot different for Paris Saint Germain if Angel Di Maria didn’t score an equalizer in the third minute of extra time to salvage a draw with Napoli in the French capital two weeks ago. PSG are still in a very tenuous position in the group, and they are currently one point back of Napoli and two points back of Liverpool. A loss would probably doom them to being knocked out in the Group Stage, and a draw will leave them with work to do in their last two matches.

It’s somewhat puzzling that in spite of PSG’s best efforts to win the Champions League, they continue to struggle. The French league is the easiest of the five major European leagues, and they have had little trouble winning it over the last five years. They spent insane amounts of money on players like Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, and although they hammered Red Star Belgrade, the goal is to beat the best in Europe and they have failed to do that.

Napoli played PSG pretty evenly when these teams met two weeks ago, but they did pick up a lot of yellow cards in the draw. That may lead to some more tenuous play this time around as players will want to avoid suspensions, but Napoli are in a better position than they would have figured. I like the over quite a bit in this one as the Italian side won’t be afraid to press at home with the way Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne have been performing.

FC Barcelona -102
Inter Milan +259
Draw +263
Over/Under 2.5 and 3

Although the Blaugrana have had some hiccups in La Liga, they have left few doubts of their class with their Champions League performances. Even without Lionel Messi in the lineup due to a broken arm, Barcelona were able to get the better of Inter Milan at Camp Nou two weeks ago and they can wrap up the group with a win here.

This is an incredibly important match for Inter Milan. They came from behind to knock off Tottenham earlier in the group stage, and they are five points ahead of both Spurs and PSV ahead of this match. A win would put them over the moon and all but eliminate both of those clubs, but a draw would have them in a good place to advance as well.

Inter Milan will look to stall the game out and hope for a draw at home. They don’t have the offensive options to run fast and loose with Barcelona, so instead they will be out to counter whenever they have the chance. I believe it will work for a while, but Barcelona will eventually crash through and get the win to claim first place in Group B.
