Bayern Munich at Liverpool Champions League

The first half of the first legs of the Champions League Round of 16 were full of excitement. Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid went on the road to secure wins, while both Roma and Porto held serve at home. The most anticipated matchup is the one between Bayern Munich and Liverpool though. These blue bloods were drawn together in this round rather unfortunately, and the side that makes an early exit will certainly be disappointed.

The Champions League knockout stage is now underway, and you don’t want to miss any of this action. This game will take place at Anfield in Liverpool, England at 3 p.m. ET on Tuesday, February 19, 2019. It will be televised on TNT.

Odds Analysis

Liverpool have been one of the most impressive clubs to watch all year. The Reds have been at the top of the Premier League for the last two months, and they have been great in both phases of the game. They finished second in the group of death during qualifying, and that was an accomplishment given their poor form on the road. Liverpool were unable to get a result from any of their three group opponents on the road, so they will be looking to ensure a win here.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are looking to shake off a disappointing season with a solid performance here. The Bavarians are unlikely to top Borussia Dortmund for the Bundesliga title, and they weren’t particularly impressive in the group stage of the Champions League either. They could have easily finished second to Ajax, but they were able to do enough to win their group. Still, this is supposed to be one of the top clubs in the world, yet they have not been impressive.

Key Injuries

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Joe Gomez have both been ruled out for this game by Liverpool. Ox was expected to be gone for the season, so the club is happy to have him possibly return in March, yet the loss of Gomez still stings. Dejan Lovern is doubtful for this match, which hurts considering he is one of the top defensive midfielders on this team, while Xherdan Shaqiri is listed as probable. Fabio Tavares will be available if need be, but he is unlikely to feature.

The big story for Bayern Munich is the status of goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Neuer missed most of last season with an injury, and he is listed as doubtful for this game because of a hand injury. Neuer has stated that he intends to play, but we’ll see whether or not that comes to fruition. Arjen Robben and Mats Hummels are both questionable to play with thigh injuries, and Bayern are hopeful that both Renato Sanches and Corentin Tolisso can play now that they are training with the team again.

Player to Watch

Son Heung-Min has been a savior for Tottenham this season. He has been the team’s late goal scoring catalyst, and he now has 10 goals in Premier League action on the year. Son scored Spurs’ other two goals against Dortmund in Champions League play last year, and he has been the team’s best scoring option with Kane out. Look for him to make a mark here.

Prop Bet – Liverpool by 1 goal +273

This is not a typical bet for me, but there is value in it. Liverpool have been incredible at home, and I don’t see them losing to Bayern in this situation. The Reds have been too good, and I am a little more afraid of a two-goal Liverpool win here than a result for Bayern Munich.

Free Soccer Betting Pick

I see Liverpool winning this one by a single goal. Bayern won’t play too loose if they go down a goal on the road, and Liverpool will be content with a win.

Champions League Odds: Liverpool 2, Bayern Munich 1
