Sunday Premier League Picks

Matchday 30 is backloaded with the best matches taking place on Sunday. All three games will involve Big Six clubs, and the stakes are high. Chelsea are currently sixth in the table, but they have a game in hand and are looking to crack the top four to get to the Champions League. Arsenal and Manchester United are battling for a spot in the top four as well in the biggest game of the week, while Liverpool are out to keep pace with Manchester city at the top of the table.

Wolves have been giant killers all season. They have performed very well against Big Six clubs, and they knocked off Chelsea in their first meeting. Wolves were solid in defense in that one and scored twice in quick succession on the counter to pull off the upset, and they would love to double down.

The issues have stopped at Chelsea for now. There was talk that Maurizio Sarri would be canned a little over a week ago if the team lost to Tottenham at Stamford Bridge, but the Blues won that game and they can rally. They have now won three straight, and that’s huge considering the off-field problems with the club.

Now that all that is out of the way, I’ll be taking Wolves. The Wanderers have had a lot of success on the counter this year, and they play very good defense. They have the fourth-best defense in the league in terms of goals allowed, so I like Wolves at this price.

Arsenal FC +130
Manchester United +205

Over/Under 2.5 and 3

This match could very well decide a Champions League spot. Only a point separates Manchester United from Arsenal, and both teams have played well in recent weeks. The Red Devils are a scorching hot 14-2-1 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and they have been much more prolific on offense. Romelu Lukaku has been on fire with six goals in the club’s last three games, but they are dealing with some major injury problems. Ten players are on the injury list for Manchester United, and seven players have already been ruled out for this match.

Arsenal have been playing well too. The Gunners did suffer a disappointing loss at the hands of Rennes in the first leg of their Europa League tie on Thursday, but much of that was due to the red card picked up by Sokratis. All three Rennes goals came after being down to 10 men, and Arsenal have defended better than they did at the start of the year.

I’ll take Arsenal here. Manchester United are too banged up, and they are due for a letdown after a stunning win over PSG.

Liverpool FC -583
Burnley FC +1470
Draw +643
Over/Under 3 and 3.5

The Reds need to rally now. Liverpool wasted away their lead in the Premier League, so they have to pick up wins in order to catch Manchester City over the last two months. The offense has been hit or miss lately, but they shouldn’t have much trouble scoring against Burnley.

The Clarets did pull off a nice upset over Tottenham a couple weeks ago, but they were unable to get the better of Newcastle or Crystal Palace, and they have had some issues on the road. They are really missing Aaron Lennon, and that makes them unlikely to get a point here.

When these teams squared off at Turf Moor in December, Burnley scored the first goal, but Liverpool notched three goals in the final 30 minutes to get the win. I think Liverpool won’t allow a goal or trail this time around.
