Champions League Betting Odds – Bayern Munich at Besiktas Match Preview

Champions-League-Bayern-Munich-at-Besiktas

Let’s be honest, Bayern Munich are through. Barring the miracle of all miracles, Bayern Munich are set to play in the Champions League Quarterfinals. The German superpower trounced Besiktas in the first leg of this matchup, and all Besiktas can really hope for is some respect after this tilt.

After such a lopsided first leg, there is a chance that Besiktas can win this one though. Bayern Munich would surely be fine with a 5-1 or 6-2 victory on aggregate, meaning there could be some value on the home team here.

Odds Analysis

Bayern Munich is in the midst of lapping the field in the Bundesliga. They have turned the domestic league into a laugher, absolutely shredding their competition throughout the year. Bayern are currently 20 points up on the second-place team in Germany and are a virtual lock to win the league and are in the semifinals of the DFB Cup too. This side hasn’t lost a match since Thanksgiving weekend.

Things have not been so rosy for Besiktas, who are third in the Turkish Super Lig. Besiktas has gotten big wins over rivals Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor, but they are still three points behind two teams.

Last Meeting

Both sides wanted to play the first leg of this tie wide open, and for 15 minutes we had that style of play. Besiktas showed they weren’t afraid of Bayern and were going to play the brand of football that got them to the knockout rounds of the Champions League in the first place.

However, that all changed in the 16th minute. Domagoj Vida took down Robert Lewandowski on a clear goal scoring opportunity just outside of the box after a bad pass from Atiba Hutchinson and was shown a straight red.

After Vida was sent off, Besiktas were left with no choice but to turtle up. They were able to hold Bayern off for a while, but eventually the floodgates broke.

Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski ended up with braces and Kingsley Coman added another to give Bayern Munich a 5-0 win over Besiktas.

Injuries to Watch

Besiktas have a few long-term injuries that are no longer noteworthy, but a recent injury will stretch them thin along the back. Pepe broke his toe a week ago in domestic play and will be sidelined for a month. The Brazilian defender is in his twilight years, but he has played a crucial role in making Besiktas solid in the back. Not having him will hurt.

Recently, Bayern announced that they have decided to not rush Manuel Neuer back and that he will miss the rest of the year. The superstar goalkeeper has been out nearly the entire season, but the club is loaded with talent and have gotten along well without him.

Coman is going to miss this game after playing well in the first leg though. He suffered a ligament tear and will need a couple of months to recover.

The big question coming into this one is how seriously Bayern will take this one. Bayern might decide to rest some of their key players and give younger guys some run. It’s been a long season for a veteran side, and they are still alive in three tournaments. That can wear you down at this time of the year.

With that in mind, it’s worth taking a flyer on Besiktas to win outright. They will be motivated to get a win at home and won’t be afraid to take chances. Under is worth a shot too with the total so high.

Champions League Odds: Besiktas 2, Bayern Munich 1
