Chelsea FC at Liverpool Odds - Bet on UEFA Super Cup

Liverpool missed out on a chance to add another trophy to their mantle last week when they took on Manchester City for the FA Community Shield. The Reds had a chance to win the match in regulation shortly before full time, but a Kyle Walker clearance at the line sent the match to penalties, and the Citizens emerged victorious there. Liverpool will be out to shrug off that disappointment and win another trophy when they face Chelsea for the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday.

Don't miss the UEFA Super Cup from Anfield in Liverpool, England at 3 p.m. ET on Wednesday, August 14, 2019. Catch every moment of the match live on TNT.

Odds Analysis

The UEFA Super Cup is contested annually between the winner of the previous year’s Champions League and the previous year’s Europa League. Liverpool won their seventh Champions League title a few months ago by beating Tottenham Hotspur, while Chelsea won the Europa League by defeating London rival Arsenal.

These clubs are feeling much different after the first week of the season. Liverpool started their campaign to unseat Manchester City as Premier League champions with a comfortable 4-1 win over newly promoted Norwich City at Anfield on Friday. The Reds tallied all four of their goals in the first half and the second half was in cruise control.

Chelsea were the only Big Six club to lose on opening weekend, and they lose in spectacular fashion. The Blues were shredded by Paul Pogba and Manchester United in a 4-0 loss in Old Trafford on Sunday. There were chances for Chelsea to score, but they hit the frame twice, continuing a disheartening trend as they led the league in shots off the woodwork last season.

Key Injuries

It wasn’t all good news for Liverpool in their opener. Alisson came off with an injury in the first half, and the team’s starting goalkeeper will now be sidelined for at least a month with a calf injury. Nathaniel Clyne is a long-term injury due to a torn ACL.

Marco van Ginkel and Reece James are long-term injuries for Chelsea, and the club won’t have Antonio Rudiger available for another couple weeks too. Callum Hudson-Odoi is out for at least one more month, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek will miss another three months. Willian is questionable to play with a strained hamstring, but N’Golo Kante made his return as a substitute on Sunday.

Player to Watch

Veteran goalkeeper Adrian was signed by Liverpool on a free transfer from West Ham just last week. The move turned out to be fortuitous due to Alisson’s injury, and Adrian will be in net for Liverpool on Wednesday. He has been a solid goalkeeper over the course of his career, but he became expendable after the Hammers acquired Lukasz Fabianski last year. He has made over 150 appearances in top flight football.

Prop Bet – Liverpool -1 and -1.5 +127

Kante’s return to Chelsea’s starting eleven will have the Blues in better position than they were against Manchester United, but Liverpool are much stronger than the Red Devils. Mo Salah and Sadio Mane will be able to carve up this back line, and the play of Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta at right back was concerning. Azpilicueta was getting outhustled by United, and Liverpool have the rest advantage here.

Even with a reserve goalkeeper, I don’t believe that Liverpool will have a problem earning a victory here. The Reds have more talent, they are playing at home, and they have more rest than their counterparts. That’s a convincing trifecta.
