FA Cup Semifinals Betting Preview

And then there were four. There are just four teams left in the FA Cup, and one is the overwhelming favorite. Manchester City have a chance to win an unprecedented quadruple, and they are the biggest, deepest, and most talented team left in the competition. The Citizens haven’t won an FA Cup title since the 2010-11 campaign, but they are heavy odds-on favorites as the only Big Six team left.

Of the remaining teams, Wolverhampton haven’t won an FA Cup title since 1960. Brighton and Hove Albion and Watford have never won a league cup.

Brighton & Hove Albion +1582

Manchester City are unbelievably large favorites at home, but they received their first real test of the competition in the quarterfinals. City crushed Rotherham United 7-0 in the third round, and they followed that up with a 5-0 win over Burnley and a 4-1 win against Newport County. However, a few weeks ago, Championship side Swansea City gave them all they could handle. The Swans were up 2-0 midway through the second half, before Manchester City scored three goals in 20 minutes to get the win and move on.

It’s been a bit more difficult for Brighton. They went on the road to beat Bournemouth 3-1 in the third round, and the draw has helped them significantly from then on. The Seagulls played three straight non-EPL sides and needed all the help they could get in order to get past West Brom, Derby Country, and Millwall. In that last game, they had to erase a 2-0 deficit in the final minutes of the match and then win in penalties.

Claudio Bravo and Fabian Delph are going to miss the match for Manchester City, and both Benjamin Mendy and Sergio Aguero are questionable. Vincent Kompany is probable to play.

Brighton won’t have Jason Steele, and the Seagulls may not have two of their best players as well. Pascal Gros is doubtful because of a thigh injury, while Florin And one is probable.

The Seagulls stunned Manchester United in the second game of the Premier League campaign, but they have been unable to beat another Big Six club. They lost to Manchester City 2-0 in their previous trip to the Etihad.

Watford FC +193
Wolverhampton Wanderers +130
Draw +210
Over/Under 2 and 2.5

Watford have been road warriors for most of the FA Cup, and they were happy to finally have two home games. The Hornets went on the road to beat sixth-tier Woking in their first match and then knocked off Newcastle United 2-0 in the next round. They continued their shutout streak in a 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers, and Watford knocked off Crystal Palace 2-1 in their first home game to get here.

Wolves have taken out two Big Six teams, and they are the second-favorite to win the FA Cup after Manchester City. They sent Liverpool out of the competition immediately with a 2-1 win over the Reds, and they outlasted a very good non-League Shrewsbury team the next round. Wolves beat Bristol City 1-0 after that and knocked off Manchester United 2-1 two weeks ago.

There are no injuries to report for the side of Wolverhampton, but Watford have a few worth noting. Tom Cleverley, Isaac Success, and Adalberto Penaranda are all questionable to play for the Hornets.

These two teams are the favorites to finish as the best non-Big Six side in the Premier League. Wolves have continually proven they can beat the top teams in England with their tenacious defending and great counterattacking, but they have to beat Watford to get a chance at Manchester City. In their previous meeting, they lost 2-0 at home to Watford with goals from Etienne Capoue and Roberto Pereyra. I like Watford’s chances at this price given Wolves’ struggles with teams that aren’t constantly trying to attack.
