Week 9 Ugly Dog Picks

Week 9 Ugly Dog Picks

If you want to win money betting NFL games then you need to be willing to take teams no one else wants to bet. I refer to these teams as ugly dogs and you really have to hold your nose sometimes when you bet on them, but history has shown that going against the public works. We went 2-2 last week to take the overall record for the season to 19-13. Let’s take a look at the Week 9 Ugly Dog picks.

Week 9 Ugly Dog Picks

Washington Redskins +10 at Buffalo Bills

We got a win last week with the Redskins, but it was ugly, as they looked pathetic on offense in a loss to the Vikings. The big key for Washington is to at least have Case Keenum available at quarterback because Dwayne Haskins looks like a deer in the headlights. If Haskins ends up getting the start then the Redskins have no real chance to be competitive in this contest. The Bills didn’t look good last week in a home loss to the Eagles and now they are laying double-digits. Buffalo is not a great team, but the Redskins are definitely a bad team. This one is ugly, but we take the points with the Redskins as an ugly dog for the second straight week.

Miami Dolphins +3 vs. New York Jets

Shockingly, we have gotten two straight wins on the Dolphins plus the points. Miami is still winless straight up, but they are playing hard with Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback. This is a really short number though, so the Dolphins almost have to win for us to cover this game. It could happen, but Miami is still a really bad team and the Jets are better. The question is whether or not the Dolphins think this is a real chance to avoid going 0-16 or whether they are just waiting until Week 16 to roll the dice and try and beat the Bengals. The Dolphins are an ugly dog play, but this one is worrisome, as Miami is just getting three points.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers +6 at Seattle Seahawks

Why are the Bucs getting less than a touchdown on the road in Seattle? Tampa Bay has a quarterback in Jameis Winston who is a turnover waiting to happen and now he goes into Seattle to face the Seahawks. The Seahawks have been one of the better teams in the NFL this season, while Tampa continues to struggle under Bruce Arians. The Bucs can put up points but they have no defense and Winston continues to turn the ball over on a regular basis. This game has all the looks of a shootout and the goal will be for the Bucs to slip under the number late. We’ll take the Bucs as an ugly dog.

New York Giants +7 vs. Dallas Cowboys

The Giants are just 2-6 and going nowhere, but they still have some talent with Saquon Barkley in the backfield and Daniel Jones is looking better at quarterback. The Cowboys lead the NFC East, but they haven’t been anything special this season and the Giants would actually get within two games of the Cowboys if they can find a way to win this game. The problem for New York is that they have no defense, as they have allowed 218 points this season. The offense has looked better with Jones under center, but unless the defense improves it will be hard for New York to win games. Playing at home may not be much of an advantage for Big Blue, as they are just 1-3 at home this season. The positives for New York are that this is a rivalry game and that Dallas isn’t a great team. We’ll take the points with the Giants as an ugly dog on Monday night.
