Super Bowl Betting Odds Heading Into NFL Week 9

Super Bowl Betting Odds Heading Into NFL Week 9

With eight weeks in the books, it’s time to take stock in what the Super Bowl LVII futures odds portfolio looks like. Before the regular season kicked off, my favorite, underdog, and longshot selections were as follows: Buffalo Bills +650, Baltimore Ravens +2200, and New York Giants +10000. Heading into Week 5, I added shares of the Philadelphia Eagles +686, Minnesota Vikings +2258, and Pittsburgh Steelers +25000. Save for the Steelers – I drank too much of the Kenny Pickett Kool-Aid – we’ve gotten the best of the number.

it’s once again time to break the offerings down at the online sportsbook and offer up my mid-season favorite, underdog, and longshot selections. Drum roll please; enjoy!

Favorite to Bet: San Francisco 49ers +1200

Though I’m voluntarily not getting the best of the number hitting the Niners at 12-1, I still think this is the team to beat in the NFC. When healthy that is. Even with the injury bug once again taking huge bites out of the roster, Kyle Shanahan has still navigated this team to a .500 record that includes a sweep of the NFC West rival and defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams. It’s also got one in the bag versus the Seahawks after scoring the dominant 27-7 win and cover as 8.5-point favorites way back in Week 2 before Seattle started turning it on.

Though currently in second place within the division, the Niners check in as decided -154 chalk to take home division bragging rights. The addition of Christian McCaffrey has already proven to be a huge boon to what had been a middling offense. Getting the walking wounded back on a defense that ranks No. 1 overall and No. 5 in points allowed should have this team firing on all cylinders when it matter most. Again, provided a bulk of the roster is healthy. With six of its final nine games to be played in the comforts of Levi’s Stadium, I’m expecting a big second half from the 49ers. Also buy some shares for Jimmy G and Co. to win the NFC at just over 5-1.

Underdog to Bet: Seattle Seahawks +5300

I’ll admit it; I completely misread Pete Carroll’s squad at the outset of the season. Never in my wet and wildest did I expect Geno Smith to turn it around enough to the point that he’s now battling Saquon Barkley for the Comeback Player of the Year Award. I also didn’t expect the defense to turn it around so quickly, but I guess that’s what happens when you knock it out of the park in the NFL Draft! Stud CB Tariq Woolen is neck-and-neck with Ahmad Gardner to win the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award, and “Sauce” has been tearing things up for the Jets!

This team has come a long way since dropping three of its first five games. While that’s reflected dramatically in its current odds to win it all after hitting the board 215-1, I still think there’s value in the current offering as confident a brand of ball the team seems to play every passing week. Heck, Kenneth Walker III is the current frontrunner to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award! All these players being up for awards means something is going right in the Emerald City, and I want a taste of it just in case Cinderella’s slipper doesn’t ultimately get smashed at midnight.

Longshot to Bet: Washington Commanders +17500

Of all the big dog tickets, this one just seems to make the most sense to take a flier on. Washington was nothing if not dreadful with Carson Wentz under center. Along with not being able to get much of anything done offensively, he killed the defense by throwing an absurd six interceptions while spitting the biscuit six more when sacked. With Taylor Heinicke inserted under center, the Commanders played even in the turnover battle against Green Bay and won it against the Colts. This team can and will have success if it doesn’t turn over the rock.

While much would have to go right for Ron Rivera’s squad for us to have any shot of cashing this ticket, there is now a path to the playoffs with Washington just two games out of first in the division. It’s still got a pair with the Giants and one each remaining against the Eagles and Cowboys. Though outscored 49-18 in both prior losses, crazier things have happened!
