NFL Week 3 Teaser Picks

Did I mention that teaser picks tease you to think you can beat the house? Well, let me put it to you this way, sportsbooks aren’t operating because they’re paying everyone that makes a bet. Oh, there’s always a chance you can win and that’s what keeps us coming back. After a poor week with my teasers, here I am ready to do it all over again in Week 3 of the NFL season. The strategy behind my Week 2 picks was sound at least I thought that at the time. Picking against me would have produced a three-team winner, though.

As it turned out the teaser picks were so very close to winning that I think I got physically ill thinking about it. Padding the Saints line to +8.5 was the right move but it didn’t click. New Orleans surrendered 17 fourth-quarter points with a pick-six tossed by Jameis Winston proving to be the difference in a 20-10 Saints defeat.

And don’t get me started with the Rams. I teased the spread down to LA -4.5 and looked good early in the fourth with the Rams up 31-10. However, a blocked punt returned for a touchdown and an intentional LA safety with seconds left moved the final to 31-27, ouch. Teasers allow the bettor to move the spread or total by as much as six points with a minimum of two wagers. And it’s always a wise strategy to move the line across key numbers increasing the value of the pick.

Let’s look at a few Week 3 games that will win a teaser bet at BookMaker.eu.

NFL Week 3 Betting Lines

Jacksonville Jaguars at Los Angeles Chargers

Opening Line: Chargers -7

Teaser Line: Chargers -1

Congratulations to the Jaguars for actually looking like a team in their 24-0 pasting of the Colts. We had a good idea they’d be better than the dumpster fire under Urban Meyer last year and Trevor Lawrence has shown improvement. The Jags are bursting with confidence following their victory but they face a Chargers team still seething after letting one get away in Kansas City last week. The extended time off between games also allows Justin Herbert to get ready after sustaining a rib injury.

By all accounts it looks like Herbert will give it a go, which is why I’m backing the Bolts on the teased line. Even if Herbert is limited or doesn’t play LA’s defense looks to be vastly improved from previous seasons. The group did a nice job against Patrick Mahomes limiting him to just 235 passing yards. If the Bolts can contain Mahomes they should be able to put the wraps on Lawrence and the Jags’ offense allowing for a cover on the reduced line.

Football Betting Bonus

Atlanta Falcons at Seattle Seahawks

Opening Total: 42

Teaser Total: 48

Taking the UNDER in this matchup allows me to tease the total in my favor up to 48. The Falcons have put up numbers averaging 26.5 points but they’ve scored just four offensive touchdowns. A defensive score and five Younghoe Koo field goals have helped. And Seattle has faltered offensively without Russell Wilson at the helm. For a team that prides itself running the football, the Seahawks are last in that category averaging 56 yards per game on the ground.

The Seahawks cashed the UNDER in each of their first two games and really struggled against a strong San Francisco group in Week 2. And from the looks of it there’s a good reason why Geno Smith hasn’t been a starter in the NFL since his first two years in the league. Neither defense resembles the 1985 Bears, but the groups are more solid than their mates on the other side making the UNDER a winner on this teaser pick.

Las Vegas Raiders at Tennessee Titans

Opening Line: Titans +1.5

Teaser Line: Titans +7.5

Desperate teams looking to avoid a 0-3 start should make for an intense game. I’m not sure which loss last week was harder to swallow; the Raiders blowing a big lead and losing to Arizona in overtime or the Titans getting whacked in Buffalo. Tennessee was the No. 1 seed in the AFC last season and I can’t count them out just yet. Getting Derrick Henry more involved will help their chances and being the home team is the clincher.

The teaser line crossed the key numbers of 3, 6 and 7 and I believe Henry could break out against a Raiders defense that had difficulty stopping the run last week. If Henry has success the entire play book opens up making Ryan Tannehill and the passing game more of a problem. In a tight matchup it’s always a good move to back the points.
