Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants Odds Analysis

Week 9 is set to wrap from MetLife Stadium on Monday Night Football when the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants collide under the lights in the second and final meeting of the regular season between these NFC East rivals. The Cowboys stomped the G-Men the opening week of the season as touchdown home favorites in a game that combined to go over the closing point total. This time around, the betting markets are giving Pat Shurmur’s squad more of a chance after cashing in against Detroit last week. See how it all unfolds against the current NFL odds on ESPN at 8:15 p.m. ET.

Dallas vs. New York Odds Analysis

The Cowboys initially hit the board as 7-point road favorites with the game total lined at 47. While the pointspread is yet to move an inch and likely won’t leading up to kick-off, the Giants have been the preferred side by the wagering public. Though Saquon Barkley and company have only received 35 percent of the bet count, linemakers only concern themselves with the money which the Giants are receiving 78 percent of mid-week. If the money continues to pour in on the home team, it’s likely the number to beat falls off the key number and heads south. A couple of big bets from sharp accounts has forced the total up a half point since the open, but the betting markets look to be split overall with the under taking 54 percent of the action.

Dallas Cowboys Odds

The Cowboys kicked off the season with three straight impressive wins and covers against the Giants, Redskins and Dolphins. The week slate of opponents did them more a disservice than anything evidenced by it dropping three straight to the Saints, Packers and inexplicably, the Jets. Dallas needed a good showing on Sunday Night Football back home against the division rival Eagles in the worst of ways, and that’s exactly what Jason Garrett’s troops put forth after smacking Philly 37-10 to cruise to the win and cover as 3-point favorites. Big D enters this tilt 4-3 SU and ATS but stands 1-2 SU and ATS away from Arlington.

New York Giants Odds

Wins have been extremely tough to come by for the Giants through the first eight weeks of the season. That said, New York has been forced to take on one of the tougher schedules in the league. The betting markets favored them in last week’s visit to Motown, but the defense failed to show up and the early turnover that led directly to points in the first quarter immediately put them behind the 8-ball. If not for Barkley’s late-game saunter into the end zone, online sportsbooks would’ve banked on the matchup. Losers of two straight and checking in 1-3 SU and ATS as a host, the chips are stacked against them in the final meeting of the year against the Cowboys.

Last Meeting

New York actually showed it could hang with the Cowboys the opening week of the season when it held a 7-0 lead deep into the first quarter. But once Dallas tied it up on a 28-yard touchdown strike from Dak Prescott to Blake Jarwin, the floodgates opened and it was a no contest. When the dust cleared, Dallas scored the 35-17 win and cover as 7-point favorites in a game that raced by the closing 44-point total. Prescott has thoroughly enjoyed running up against the Giants’ porous pass defense. In his last five showings, the Cowboys QB1 has thrown for 1,552 yards and 13 TDs. He’s victimized the Giants’ corners and is in a good spot to do so once again after ripping them for 400+ yards and 4 TD in the season opener.

Key Trends

The Cowboys have flat out owned the recent rivalry with the Giants in taking each of the last five meetings both SU and ATS. They won those games by an average of 12.4 points per game while laying an average of 5.0 points in the four most recent games they were favored to come out on top in. Save for last year’s Week 17 clash in a game Dallas rested some but not all of its starters, Big D’s defense has limited NY to an average of just under 11.0 points per game. With that, the under has cashed in three of the last five meetings with the over coming in for total bettors in each of the last two.
