2022 Washington Commanders Season Win Total Odds

Washington Commanders Season Win Total Betting

The Washington Commanders haven’t won a playoff game since 2005. The Daniel Snyder era has been dreadful for the franchise and fans alike, as the on-field and off-field problems have resulted in growing disgust from both the national media and the local populace. Snyder will have to testify before Congress after receiving a subpoena from the US House Oversight Committee, and that has overshadowed what should have been a PR win with the finalization of the name change to the Commanders.

Washington Commanders Offense

Carson Wentz is back in the NFC East after a one-year stop in Indianapolis. The Commanders swapped second-round picks and dealt a third-round pick to the Colts for Wentz, and they might give up a third-round pick next year too. He is an upgrade over Taylor Heinicke, but it’s hard to have a lot of faith in Wentz.

Wentz has largely posted solid numbers over the course of his career. He struggled as a rookie and had accuracy issues in 2020, but his stats for his other four seasons in the NFL look fine on paper. However, Wentz showed why two teams have already cut bait on him in last year’s season finale against Jacksonville. Indianapolis simply needed to beat the worst team in the NFL to make the playoffs, but Wentz was dreadful and was sacked six times despite having the best offensive line in the league.

Washington will need a lot more from Wentz to be successful too. While Indianapolis had an elite offensive line and the best running game in the NFL in 2021, the Commanders simply have a marginal offensive line and an average ground game. Antonio Gibson has done a pretty good job considering he doesn’t have a lot of help around him, and he ran for over 1,000 yards while averaging 4.0 YPC. J.D. McKissic is an underrated receiver out of the backfield, giving Wentz a safety valve in the flat. The offensive line is going to allow a lot of sacks though and run blocking will be an issue.

This receiving corps could be solid if Jahan Dotson plays well as a rookie. Dotson was taken with the No. 16 overall pick in this year’s draft to compliment Terry McLaurin on the perimeter. McLaurin has been arguably the most underrated receiver in football since entering the league, and that should take some attention away from him, allowing him to be more productive. The depth is a big question mark though.

Washington Commanders Defense

The Commanders have used a lot of draft capital on their defensive line over the years. All four of their starters up front were first round picks, but Jonathan Allen was the only player that had a strong 2021 campaign with nine sacks and a Pro Bowl nod. Chase Young was ineffective before suffering a season-ending injury, and Montez Sweat dealt with injuries too. Washington needs these players to get to the quarterback and be disruptive if this team is going to make a postseason push.

This second level is very weak, and the linebacking corps is one of the worst in the NFL. That puts more pressure on the defensive line to get to the quarterback, and the defensive backs aren’t great either. William Jackson III was a first-round pick that hasn’t panned out, and the safeties aren’t playmakers.

Prediction

Ron Rivera is one of the best coaches in the NFL, so the Commanders will likely win more games than they should given their talent. They have a favorable schedule, but eight wins feels like one too many given the lack of star power on the roster.
