Week 8 NCAAF Picks – Oklahoma at TCU Football Odds

Week 8 NCAAF Picks

Week eight will include one of the most important matchups in any of the Power Five conferences as the slumping but capable TCU Horned Frogs host the Oklahoma Sooners at high noon on Saturday. Oklahoma has had two weeks to stew over their loss to arch rival Texas in the Red River Shootout while the Horned Frogs are yet to get over their close call loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Oklahoma will have a new defensive coordinator after firing Mike Stoops following the gut-wrenching loss to Texas. This could provide significant live betting factors that otherwise wouldn’t have been considered for this game.

This matchup in Week 8 will take place on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at noon ET from Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas. ABC is providing the telecast of this game.

Live Betting Odds Analysis

All eyes will be on the Oklahoma Sooners defense and new coordinator Ruffin McNeil, who takes over from the fired Mike Stoops. McNeil has had success in his previous defensive coordinator roles including at Texas Tech in the Big 12. The inconsistent TCU offense may provide opportunities for the Sooners to improve and for gamblers to find live betting value!

Current Form

The TCU Horned Frogs are 3-3 straight up and 2-4 against the spread with four of their six games going under the total. TCU has failed to get the money in their last three games that followed a 40-28 loss to Ohio State that was much closer than the final score indicated. The Horned Frogs are coming off a tough 17-14 home loss late in the final moments to Texas Tech as 7.5-point home chalks.

Oklahoma is coming off a bye week that followed their 48-45 loss to Texas that dropped their record of 5-1 straight up but just 2-4 against the spread with five of their games going over the total.

Team Metrics

Mike Stoops leaves behind a defense that ranks 97th overall in the nation. Stoops admitted that he left head coach Lincoln Riley no choice after his unit was lit up by Texas. Oklahoma does boast the nation’s fifth ranked scoring offense.

TCU ranks a lethargic 71st in the country for scoring offense but an impressive 15th in the nation for scoring defense. Furthermore, the Horned Frogs defense was quite impressive last week against the high-octane Texas Tech passing attack. That bodes well for this matchup against the Sooners.

Head to Head

Oklahoma has covered the spread in their last three meetings with TCU with three of the last four meetings going under the total. The Sooners have paid in two of their last three visits to Amon G. Carter Stadium with their last two visits going over the total.

ATS Trends

Oklahoma has failed to cover six of their last nine road games with a whopping 16 of their last 20 away games going over the total. But TCU has failed to get the money in 13 of their last 16 home games with just five of their last 20 games at home going over the total.

Oklahoma Loaded Offense

Oklahoma quarterback Kyle Murray could arguably rank second only to Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa as the nation’s most dynamic quarterback. Murray has a 227.8 quarterback rating with 21 touchdown passes and just three interceptions. Murray is averaging 13.07 yards per pass attempt. Beyond that he is Oklahoma’s leading rusher and averaging 6.6 yards per carry. Wide receiver Marquise Brown has 33 receptions for 20.5 yards per catch with seven touchdowns for OU.

Free Live Betting ATS Pick

Live betting has plenty of factors starting with Kyler Murray and the respective defenses. Can Oklahoma show some improvement with McNeil running the defense? Can TCU contain Murray? And can TCU get out of their overall team funk? At the end of the day Murray and Ruffin McNeil should provide the Sooner margin.
