Week 7 College Football National Championship Odds Update

Week 7 College Football National Championship Odds

Week seven has seen the Alabama Crimson Tide remain the overwhelming favorite to win college football’s national championship but from there the remaining choices have seen some noticeable price changes based on last week’s results. Indeed, the Clemson Tigers destruction of the Demon Deacons at Wake Forest has garnered justifiable attention and restoration of faith. The Ohio State Buckeyes and Georgia Bulldogs continue to plod in workmanlike fashion. But the two teams that made huge strides with gamblers last week were the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Texas Longhorns. Let’s take a look at the new college football national championship landscape entering week seven.

College Football National Championship Odds at BookMaker.eu: Alabama 10/13, Clemson 9/2, Ohio State 5/1, Georgia 7/1, Notre Dame 10/1, Texas 20/1, Washington 20/1, Michigan 25/1, West Virginia 25/1, Oklahoma 33/1, Penn State 33/1, Wisconsin 33/1, UCF 40/1, Miami, FL 50/1, Colorado 100/1, Florida 100/1, LSU 100/1

College Football National Championship Odds Analysis

Despite a 6-0 record Alabama is 3-3 against the spread. The Tide failed to get the money for the third consecutive week in a 65-31 triumph at Arkansas as 35-point favorites. Perhaps the biggest concern regarding Alabama is the fear that things have been too easy for them so far.

Horns Hook Oklahoma to Emerge as Favorite

Nobody with the possible exception of Notre Dame had a more impressive and productive week than the Texas Longhorns. Texas scored an epic 48-45 win over the arch rival Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Shootout last Saturday. The Longhorns blew a 45-24 fourth quarter lead as Oklahoma tied the game with 2:38 to play. But quarterback Sam Ehlinger engineered the game winning drive in which freshman Cameron Dicker “The Kicker” won the game for the Horns with a 40-yard field goal. Not only did Texas earn gambling cache with the win but Oklahoma suffered a steep drop in esteem.

Notre Dame Rocks Hokie Pokey

There were more than a few gamblers that believed the Notre Dame Fighting Irish would be entering a trap against what was expected to be a very live home dog in the Virginia Tech Hokies. But after the pregame hype the evening belonged to head coach Brian Kelly’s Fighting Irish as they easily got the money in a 45-23 win as 6.5-point chalks. Quarterback Ian Book has completely flipped the script for the Irish as he has given them a dynamic element on offense that was lacking before he took over. Book lit the Hokies up for 271 yards and two touchdowns in the win while Notre Dame running back Dexter Williams powered to 178 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

Buckeyes Lose While Winning

Sure, the Ohio State Buckeyes are 6-0 straight up but they are just 3-3 against the spread with three losses against the odds in their last four games. Ohio State failed to cover as 27-point home overlays in a 49-26 win over Indiana that was close most of the day. A defense that ranks 54th overall in the country is of increasing concern. Especially with the Michigan Wolverines defense being among the nation’s best.

Maize Making Opponents Black and Blue

The Michigan Wolverines have won five in a row since their week one loss at Notre Dame that doesn’t look nearly as bad now as it did then. Michigan boasts the top defense in the country and quarterback Shea Patterson has proven to be the missing element for the offense.

UGA-Ly Value in Georgia

The 6-0 Georgia Bulldogs have failed to cover two of their last three games as their offense is good but not great and is not complementing the nation’s second ranked scoring defense.

Notre Dame continues to impress and emerge as a complete team now that Ian Book is under center. The dominant win at Virginia Tech only serves to enhance their reputation with gamblers.
