Week 6 Football Picks – Georgia Tech at Louisville NCAAF Predictions

Week 6 Football Picks

Week 6 preliminary action incudes a challenging Friday night matchup from the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Louisville Cardinals are in free fall just two years removed from having a Heisman Trophy winning quarterback and being in the conversation for the college football playoff. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets stopped their own bleeding last week but that does not take away from their disappointing start. While both teams can still attain bowl eligibility neither has any margin for error. Which is what makes Friday night’s matchup so potentially intriguing.

Kickoff for this regular season Week 6 game is set for Friday, October 5, 2018, at 7 p.m. ET at Cardinal Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky. TV coverage is on ESPN.

Odds Analysis

This matchup will not have a lot of appeal for the general betting public because both teams are struggling. Sharper gamblers will consider not only last week’s performance but also Georgia Tech’s strong ground game going up against the poor Louisville defense. Gamblers sense blood in the water with the Louisville Cardinals.

Recent Form

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are 2-3 straight up and a poor 1-4 against the spread with three of their five games going over the total. The Yellow Jackets got the money for the first time all season in a 63-17 home payout over Bowling Green last week.

The Louisville Cardinals are 2-3 straight up and also 1-4 against the spread with three of their five games going under the total. Louisville is coming off a bad and dispiriting 28-24 home loss to a bad Florida State Seminoles team. However, Louisville did pay as five-point home dogs.

Current Metrics

Georgia Tech’s famed option attack continues to frustrate opponents and ranks second in the nation for total yards. The Ramblin’ Wreck ranks 38th in the country for scoring offense but 83rd for scoring defense.

Louisville is a mere shell of itself, especially on offense and with a coach in Bobby Petrino that is supposed to be one of the great offensive minds in the game. The Cardinals rank 120th in the country for total offense and 122nd for scoring offense. The defense ranks not much better with a national ranking of 75th.

Key ATS Stats

Georgia Tech has failed to get the money in their last five road games with four of their last five tilts away from home going over the total. On the other hand, Louisville has paid in just three of their last 11 home games with three of their last four at Cardinal Stadium going under the total.

Players to Watch

Georgia Tech is led by quarterback TaQuon Marshall. Marshall is the Yellow Jackets leading rusher and is averaging 4.3 yards per carry with a team best seven touchdowns. Also contributing to the strong Georgia Tech ground game is running back Jordan Mason, who is averaging 8.1 yards per carry with three touchdowns. Tobias Oliver adds another threat with 6.9 yards per carry with five touchdowns.

This trio opens the door to what could be some outstanding live betting opportunities throughout this game.

Free ATS Pick

Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson is something of a curmudgeon that grates on Yellow Jacket fans when the team struggles. But his long-term run has been solid. He makes the most of the situation at an academically oriented program.

What is most perplexing to gamblers are the struggles of the Louisville Cardinals with Bobby Petrino. Petrino had great initial success in his second stint at the Ville but the administration has gone through vast turnover due to basketball scandals with the NCAA. This has spilled over to hurt the football program as well.

Of the two teams Georgia Tech brings far superior fire power.
