Week 3 NCAAF Betting – LSU at Auburn Football Picks

Week 3 NCAAF Betting

Last year Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge was in a near riot when the homestanding LSU Tigers fell behind the Auburn Tigers 20-0 early in the second quarter. At that point athletic director Joe Alleva and head coach Ed Orgeron were likely fearing for their jobs, if they were lucky. But from there one of the great rallies in recent college football history took place as the Bayou Bengals ended up as 27-23 winners and left the field to a thundering and hysterical ovation while Auburn and head coach Gus Malzahn went from hero to zero status in a couple of hours. Now Auburn will be looking to turn the table and gain revenge as they host LSU Saturday.

This matchup in Week 3 will take place on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at 3:30 p.m. ET at Jordan Hare Stadium. CBS is providing the telecast of this game.

Odds Analysis

Auburn’s week one win over Washington garnered a lot of attention with college football fans and gamblers and it may also prove to be an overreaction. Meanwhile LSU could prove to be a live dog with a quality win in their own right over Miami. But the revenge angle looms large for Auburn.

Recent Form

Auburn is 2-0 straight up and 1-1 against the spread with a 1-1 split on totals. After their 21-16-week one win over highly regarded Washington in week one the Tigers scored a 63-9 win over Alabama State but failed to cover as ridiculous 62.5-point favorites.

LSU has a record of 2-0 straight up and 1-1 against the spread with a 1-1 split on totals. The Bayou Bengals impressed all with a 33-17 opening day payout over Miami at the neutral site of AT&T Stadium in Irving, Texas. The wrong team was favored as LSU was a live three-point dog with bite. Last week the Tigers coasted to a 31-0 home win over Southeast Louisiana as 40-point chalks.

LSU Key Trends

LSU has been a truly horrible betting value as road dogs with just two payouts in their last ten games getting points away from home. Just one of the Tigers last nine games as road dogs went over the total. And as dogs of seven or more points on the road the Bayou Bengals have covered just two of their last 11 against the number. Just two of LSU’s last 12 games as road pups of seven or more points went over the total.

Auburn Key Trends

Auburn has been a good play as a home favorite with just three losses against the spread in their last nine in that role. Four of War Eagle’s last six as home chalks went under the total. As home chalks of seven or more points Auburn has lost just three of their last 10 vs. the odds with four of their last six in that role going under the total.

Head to Head

The home team has come away with the cash in the last four meetings between LSU and Auburn. At Jordan Hare Stadium Auburn has paid in their last four games against LSU. All four of those games went under the total.

Players to Watch

LSU running back Nick Brossette is averaging 6.4 yards per carry with two touchdowns. Quarterback Joe Burrow has been erratic with a 47% completion rate. Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham has completed 68% of his passes with 8.2 yards per attempt and a 2/0 touchdown to interception ratio. And AU running back JaTarvious Whitlow is averaging 6.8 yards per carry. In particular this quarterback comparison looks to be the difference in this SEC showdown.

Free ATS Pick

Combing the revenge factor with the superior quarterback in Stidham and the strong trends previously mentioned make Auburn an appealing choice.

College Football Odds: Auburn 27, LSU 14
