Week 12 College Football National Championship Odds Update

Week 12 opens with the ultimate master of the obvious fact of the Alabama Crimson Tide being the overwhelming favorites to win the national championship. Just as obvious is the Clemson Tigers being the second choice. From there it gets much more interesting. The Michigan Wolverines continue to grow in esteem with the gambling public with what is likely the best defense in the country. The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame are undefeated but their starting quarterback is hobbling. The Georgia Bulldogs are rebounding well after their hiccup at LSU. Meanwhile the Ohio State Buckeyes and Oklahoma Sooners have great offenses but defenses that could prevent title runs.

College Football National Championship Odds at BookMaker.eu: Alabama 2/5, Clemson 4/1, Michigan 9/1, Notre Dame 12/1, Georgia 14/1, Ohio State 20/1, Oklahoma 28/1, West Virginia 100/1, Washington State 150/1

Alabama Crimson Tide

Before simply waving the white flag of surrender keep in mind that Las Vegas is a bright city of beautiful big buildings based on “forgone conclusions.” Alabama’s national title hopes could hinge on the tender knee of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Additionally, backup quarterback Jalen Hurts is not at 100 percent. An injury to Tua is all it would take to potentially blow up the expensive ticket on the Tide.

Clemson Tigers

Certainly, the Tigers are a fully capable program that is a perennial playoff team. But the fact also remains that the Atlantic Coast Conference is quite weak this year with former powers such as the Florida State Seminoles and Virginia Tech Hokies down and out. True freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence has proven to be the right choice since taking over in week five. But outside of their week two win at the Texas A&M Aggies and a high wire act home win over the Syracuse Orange the Tigers have not really been tested.

Michigan Wolverines

Michigan boasts the nation’s top ranked defense and a vastly improved offense and ground attack. The Wolverines “Revenge Tour” resumes next week with the ultimate quest of winning at the Horseshoe against the Ohio State Buckeyes. More gamblers are seeing that as not just a real possibility but a likelihood.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Notre Dame destroyed the Florida State Seminoles last week 42-13 despite starting quarterback Ian Book having to sit out with injured ribs. Book is scheduled to return for Saturday’s dangerous game against the Syracuse Orange at Yankee Stadium in New York. All of a sudden, a game that was penciled in as a win is now a perilous matchup as the Orange are a surging team that could end up in the top ten.

Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia is playing with much more focus and consistency since their debacle at LSU. The Bulldogs have as much talent and depth of anyone outside Alabama. Their balanced offense and strong defense make them a threat to win it all. Georgia will meet Alabama in the SEC Championship Game in three weeks which will have a multitude of playoff implications.

Ohio State Buckeyes

Last week’s 26-6 win at the Michigan State Spartans has everyone feeling better about the much-maligned Buckeyes defense. Sure, the Sparty offense is really bad but the Buckeyes did not allow them to recover. Next week’s home game against the hated rival Michigan Wolverines will tell all. Quarterback Dwayne Haskins gives the Bucks a shot against anyone they face.

Oklahoma Sooners

Speaking of derided defenses, the Sooners certainly have one and all of their weaknesses were exposed in last week’s Bedlam matchup. OU held off the Oklahoma State Cowboys 48-47 but did get the ultimate defensive play when needed most as they stopped the Cowpokes on a two-point conversion late in the game to escape with victory. Oklahoma is the one team that has the offensive firepower to stay with any team in the country.

College Football National Championship Odds Analysis

Oklahoma remains the best value that brings the most potential bang for the buck.
