Week 11 College Football Betting Recap

Week 11 College Football Betting Recap

Week 11 was touted as potentially dangerous for the opposite reason that Week 10 was touted to be so. That is because Week 10 proved to be something of a letdown as most teams and games went to form. Which made many observers believe that extra chaos would certainly follow. But the same ended up holding up in Week 11. The recently completed weekend of college football was among the chalkiest in recent memory. And nothing much has changed as far as the race for the college football playoff. Perhaps the biggest changes to result of Week 11 will be in the coaching ranks. Louisville’s Bobby Petrino has joined Kansas coach David Beaty as the first two coaches to be fired in the Power Five. And more men could soon be facing the firing squad.

Dogs and Hosts Remain in the Red

As was the case in Week 10 home teams and dogs did not fare well in Week 11. Overall the favorites got the money in 35 out of 63 games while road teams took home a suitcase full of cash in 32 of the matchups. Undertakers were quite happy with only 27 of the 63 games going over the total.

Big Dogs with Bite

The UNLV Rebels have suffered through another bad season but they have the distinction of being the biggest underdog to win straight up in Week 11. UNLV scored a 27-24 win at the San Deigo State Aztecs as 24-point chalks.

Also noteworthy was the Wake Forest Demon Deacons scoring a 27-23 win at the North Carolina State Wolfpack as 19-point dogs. With the win the Deacs remains in contention to salvage a letdown season with a bowl berth.

Laying the Lumber

The Utah State Aggies proved to be the biggest favorite to get the money in their 62-24 home win over the San Jose State Spartans as 31-point favorites.

The Stanford Cardinal has suffered a lackluster season but took their frustrations out on the Oregon State Beavers 48-17 as 24-point home chalks.

Covering big numbers is routine business of the Alabama Crimson Tide and Nick Saban’s team again got the money in a 24-0 win over Mississippi State as 22 home point chalks.

Perhaps the most significant big favorite cover was the Syracuse Orange whipping the Louisville Cardinals 54-23 as 20.5-point home chalks. Louisville fired Bobby Petrino two days after the loss.

Bad Beat at Aggieland

The Ole Miss Rebels were getting 13 points at the Texas A&M Aggies and kicked a field goal to close the gap to 31-24 with just 1:51 to play. The Aggies recovered the ensuing onside kick and figured to run out the clock only to instead see Trayveon Williams run 46 yards for the covering touchdown score in a game that ended 38-24 in an excruciating loss for Rebels backers.

Feet of Clay

The USC Trojans looked as ugly as their 15-14 loss to the California Golden Bears would indicate. It was a very bad Homecoming for USC with the few fans that actually did show up no doubt disgusted upon leaving Memorial Coliseum. USC head coach Clay Helton was never accepted as a true bona fide head man at this blue blood program and now is under intense fire. Cal had not beaten the Trojans in 15 years. Helton already demoted his offensive coordinator and fired his offensive line coach two weeks ago. There is nobody left to blame.

Big Red Rising

The Nebraska Cornhuskers will not be going to a bowl game this year but may very well enter 2019 as the odds-on favorite to win the Big Ten West Division. Nebraska is finally starting to click for first year head coach Scott Frost and has lost only one of their last six games against the spread. Last week the Big Red bounced the Illinois Fighting Illini 54-35 as 17-point home chalks for their third straight up win in four games. In the weak Big Ten West Nebraska could fill the power void.
