NCAA Football Week 13 - Syracuse at Boston College Odds

Both the Boston College Eagles and the Syracuse Orange are looking to end their regular seasons on the right foot after suffering disappointing losses last week. Even though Boston College was banged up last week, the Eagles missed out on a golden chance to move to 8-3 on the season against a slumping Florida State team. The Eagles had a chance to ice the game late by going for it on 4th and 1 from FSU’s 40 with under three minutes left, but Boston College instead elected to punt and less than a minute later the Seminoles made them pay with a 74-yard touchdown pass from Deondre Francois to Tamorrion Terry.

As for Syracuse, the Orange were optimistic about their chances against undefeated Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish had looked vulnerable early on in the season, and starting book Ian Book had been dealing with bruised ribs. However, Cuse was simply no match for Notre Dame in a 36-3 rout for the Irish. The Orange are likely to plummet in the CFP rankings as a result, and a loss here would leave them out of the final list completely.

This contest in Week 13 will take place on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 12 p.m. ET at BC Alumni Stadium in Boston, Massachusetts.

Odds Analysis

There is no CFB betting line or total available for this game yet. That’s because both teams are dealing with major injuries. Boston College still has a banged up backfield as Anthony Brown and AJ Dillon both played through injuries against Florida State. Syracuse’s Eric Dungey was hurt against Notre Dame, and some are speculating that he will have to undergo season-ending surgery once more.

Player to Watch

If Dungey is unable to play on Saturday, the Orange will turn to freshman Tommy DeVito. DeVito was a highly rated recruit, and his potential is evident when you watch him play. He was thrown in with the wolves against the Irish though, and he did not respond well. DeVito was hounded by the Irish front seven all game and threw two interceptions and was sacked six times.

DeVito has impressed at other times though. He played great in relief of Dungey against Florida State, and he lit up North Carolina after Dungey left with an injury in that one too. Boston College does have a very good defense, and DeVito would need his line to hold up to succeed. He is not the mobile threat that Dungey has been over the course of his career.

Matchup to Watch

Steve Addazio wants to run the ball and rely on his defense to win games. Addazio has one of the best running backs in the country in AJ Dillon, and he has sent him running into the line often in his old school ‘three yards and a cloud of dust’ system.

To call Dillon a workhorse is an understatement. When Dillon has been healthy, Addazio has leaned on him heavily, and he already has three games in which he has carried the ball at least 30 times this year.

Syracuse’s defense has been much better than it has been in the past, but this is still a front seven that can be run on. Addazio is probably going to call Dillon’s number at least 25 times in this one in the hope of wearing down the Orange.

Live Betting Preview

Wait to bet this one until more is known about everyone’s health. The drop-off at quarterback and running back is precipitous for Boston College, while this would be DeVito’s first real start. Consider playing the over if it comes out in the high 50s or low 60s though. Everyone knows how fast Syracuse plays, but BC is getting to the line rather quickly too this year.
