Nebraska vs. Illinois

Linemakers look to be bullish on Big Red with the team owners of 6.5-game win total odds regardless of the program yet to exceed three wins in any of Scott Frost’s prior three years in Lincoln. Brett Bielema is now calling the shots in Champagne, and the Illini has seen their win total take some over money with it up to 5.5 and heavy juice attached. Illinois put an end to a four-year losing streak to the Cornhuskers when it trounced Nebraska 41-23 as heavy 16.5-point road underdogs last year. Nebraska opened 9.5-point favorites for the rematch, but has been since bet down to touchdown road chalk.

Boise State vs. UCF

Both the Broncos and Golden Knights expect to have large says in how their respective divisions pan out this upcoming season. Boise State elected to forego its bowl game a season ago. UCF likely should’ve as well after Zach Wilson and the BYU Cougars made minced meat of them in the Boca Raton Bowl. Regardless, it’s the Golden Knights that hit the board as 4-point favorites to win this battle between the Mountain West and AAC. The number to beat is down to -3.5 with the betting markets still of the belief Kalani Sitake’s kids have it in them to win another game on the road after going 3-1 SU and ATS last season.

September 3

North Carolina vs. Virginia Tech

Heisman hopeful Sam Howell will lead the Tar Heels into battle against the Hokies in the first game of the first installment of Friday Night Lights betting of the year! These teams played to a thrilling 56-45 final a season ago in a game that saw the Heels offense rack up 656 yards of combined offense en route to covering as short 3.5-point home favorites. These Coastal Division rivals have combined to score an average of 92.5 points per game in the last two meetings. VTECH hasn’t dropped back-to-back games to North Carolina since the turn of the century, but that didn’t prevent linemakers from opening the Heels 6-point favorites in Blacksburg. It’s down to -5 with the Hokies a perfect 2-0 ATS the last two times UNC laid points in Lane Stadium.

September 4

Georgia vs. Clemson

While the matchup between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Miami Hurricanes will hog the afternoon spotlight, it’s the primetime tilt between the Bulldogs and Tigers that will have college football bettors lining up in droves to get a piece of the action. Each of these teams ranks out amongst the upper echelon favorites to take home the title this season. Kirby Smart has got himself a heck of a football team returning to Athens, while Dabo Swinney has proven he just reloads year in and year out. The litmus test doesn’t get any bigger for the Dawgs who will be out to prove they’re worthy of punching a ticket back to the College Football Playoff. It’ll be business as usual for D.J. Uiagalelei and the Tigers who’ve been bet up to 4-point favorites from the 3.5-point opener. Clemson’s owned the recent rivalry between these schools in going 4-1 SU and 2-3 ATS in the last five meetings, but they last crossed paths back in 2014.

September 5

Notre Dame vs. Florida State

The days of the FSU Seminoles being perennial national championship contenders have unfortunately come to an end. Since closing 2017 out with a 7-6 record that was capped with a trouncing of Southern Miss in the Independence Bowl, the program has amassed 5-7, 6-7 and most recently 3-6 records. Owners of a 5.5-game win total and residing in the Atlantic Division of the ACC – Clemson’s stomping ground – linemakers aren’t expecting much from the Noles in year two of the Mike Norvell regime. Same goes for Week 1 against the Irish who currently clock in as 7.5-point Doak Campbell Stadium favorites to open the season on a winning note. The betting markets beg to differ however with the game initially hitting the board with the Seminoles installed 9.5-point home underdogs. Florida State lost 42-26 but covered as 21-point Notre Dame Stadium underdogs last season. If the Noles are to make even more of a game of it this time around, the defense best make it a point to get in the way of stud running back Kyren Williams who torched them for 185 yards and 2 TD on the ground.

September 6

Louisville vs. Ole Miss

The Cardinals were one of the bigger disappointments of the 2020-21 CFB betting season. Scott Satterfield’s kids entered the season with high expectations as one of the teams to beat in the ACC. That lasted for all of one week after getting rolled up and smoked by the Canes in Week 2. It’ll have an opportunity to turn the page in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff on Labor Day when it runs up against Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss Rebels who were one of the more entertaining collegiate teams to take in on a weekly basis a season ago. Matt Corral is back as the primary signal caller of an offense that rated out amongst the best in the country in averaging over 560 yards and 40-plus points per game. If not for its laughable defense, the Rebels would’ve won way more than just four games. That’s highly evident with linemakers installing them touchdown favorites to win this game and the betting markets pushing the number to beat up a full point.
