College Football Odds – Week 7 Major Line Moves

Week 7 Major Line Moves

We’ve seen a number of lines jump around early in the Week 7 college football betting week, which could just be an overreaction now that we’re roughly half way through the season. The Group of Five conferences have seen significant early movement with the Mountain West having a number of games bounce around. The New Mexico-Colorado State matchup even jumped the fence with the Rams going from a 1-point opening favorite to a 1-point dog.

The Power Five conferences give us three ranked matchups this week, and as expected there has been some movement on the lines. A crossover game in the SEC has No. 2 Georgia at No. 13 LSU. The Dogs opened as 7-point chalk, saw the number dip to +6.5 before rising to the current +7.5. A key matchup in the Pac-12 North has No. 7 Washington looking to take control with a visit to No. 17 Oregon. The Huskies have bounced around between a 3- and 3.5-point favorite in that one. No. 12 Michigan went from a 6.5-point favorite to -7.5 for its Big Ten showdown with No. 15 Wisconsin.

Here are some of the biggest movers in early Week 7 betting action at BookMaker.eu.

Week 6 Major Line Moves
UNLV at Utah State
Opening Line: Utah State -23.5
Current Line: Utah State -27

This is one of those Mountain West games that saw a big move in the opening line. The Aggies might just be the class of the conference after winning four straight games following a near-miss against Michigan State in their opener. They hung 31 on Sparty in the 7-point loss and have scored at least 42 points in every game since. Wins over New Mexico State and overmatched FCS Tennessee Tech by a combined 133-25 didn’t get much attention, but knocking off Air Force and beating rival BYU on the road by 25 certainly did. The Aggies are a perfect 5-0 ATS and have cashed the over in all five outings with the help of the third-highest scoring offense in the FBS.

The Rebels can run the football. When they can’t they are in big trouble. Playing without starting quarterback Armani Rogers and getting just 36 yards on the ground, UNLV lost its second straight, falling 50-14 to New Mexico as an 8-point favorite. Rogers won’t be back this week and the Rebels have faded at the betting window. Utah State is getting over 70 percent of the early action forcing a major shift in the line.

Nebraska at Northwestern
Opening Line: Northwestern -9
Current Line: Northwestern -3.5

The biggest shift so far has come in favor of Nebraska for their tilt against Northwestern. The winless Huskers opened as a 9-point dog and the number has been wagered all the way down to 3.5. An argument can be made that Nebraska is the most disappointing team in college football, but the metrics say they are about to breakthrough. They got a fourth quarter touchdown run from Adrian Martinez last week to get the backdoor cover, their first ATS win of the season.

Northwestern blew a 17-point lead in a loss to Michigan two weeks ago but responded by knocking off Michigan State on the road last week. The Wildcats are getting a majority of support from the betting public, but sharps are pounding the Huskers anticipating a Northwestern letdown.

Akron at Buffalo
Opening Line: Buffalo -9
Current Line: Buffalo -10.5

The line for this game isn’t significant in terms of the amount of points, rather where the line went. There are key numbers on a betting line and 10 is one of them. This line opened at Buffalo -9 and skipped right over the boundary number and went as high as -11 before settling at -10.5. Buffalo’s only loss was a stunning 42-13 blowout to Army as a 7.5-point favorite. The Bulls bounced back last week by amassing 433 total yards against a good Central Michigan defense in a 34-24 cover win. Buffalo should take care of a Zips team that was steamrolled by Miami-Ohio last week as 5-point chalk. The game against the Black Knights aside, the Bulls appear to be the class of the MAC East and this line could continue to rise.
