College Football Betting – Week 9 Wise Guy Picks

College Football Betting – Week 9 Wise Guy Picks

Those wacky wise guys did it again last week getting a clean sweep of the three games we followed with sharp action. If you’ve been paying attention over the course of the college football season and following our lead on the wise guy plays at offshore sportsbooks, you’d have a nice chunk of change in your account for the remaining games. It’s not over yet, though, and we can still pad that bankroll with the help of wise guys.

Wise guys were banking on Ohio State dropping a 50-spot on Northwestern last week, and guess what. That’s exactly what the Buckeyes did and then some. OSU’s 52-3 victory made the over a winning ticket. Grabbing Kansas at +24 last week proved profitable. The Jayhawks were winners even though the line fell to +20 making wise guys winners two times in a row when backing Les Miles’ club. Proving once again that when you buy is as important as anything else when wagering, Indiana provided enough margin on the opening line to get a win. The Hoosiers hit the board at -1 for their tilt with Maryland and got gobbled up, pushing the closing spread to -6.5. Guess what? They won 34-28. So, if you waited, too bad.

Week 9 is loaded with plenty of betting options so let’s not waste any time and have a look at a few college football games on the schedule to see what wise guys are up to. Week 9 Wise Guy Picks

Wisconsin at Ohio State ( 50 )

The movement on the total for this Big Ten showdown was subtle, but it spoke volumes about where the sharp money was headed. There was a classic overreaction by the squares after last week’s results. Wisconsin saw any chance it had of making the CFP evaporate with a horrific loss to Illinois. Meanwhile, Ohio State gouged another opponent by dropping 52 on a Northwestern team that prides itself on playing defense. When the total hit the board at 51 there was a quick reply on the over with three-quarters of the action backing that side.

The subtle move came when the total dropped a full point to 50, meaning wise guys are banking on the Badgers defense coming up large against a team that averages nearly 50 points per game. It’s hard to pitch a shutout in college football, yet Wisconsin has four of them and is yielding just 7.6 points halfway through the season. Some will argue the competition hasn’t been challenging, and they may be right. But we could say the same thing about OSU’s offense.

Oklahoma ( -24 ) at Kansas State

Every week I’ll come across a line or two that leaves me scratching my head in bewilderment. Then I remember that wise guys are smarter than me and just go with it. The spread for this Big 12 matchup was a bit of puzzler. Coming off a trouncing of West Virginia to remain perfect, Oklahoma opened as a 20-point road favorite against the Wildcats. It seems fair enough since the Sooners are the highest scoring team in the country and have added an improved defense to the arsenal.

K-State is coming off its first conference win of the season and is a respectable 3-1 SU and ATS at home, but the Cats were popular with the betting public garnering nearly 60 percent of the action. Wise guys are coming to rescue the Sooner Schooner after it capsized last week and backing OU pushed the line to -24. That’s a good pick since the Sooners are 4-1 ATS in their last five when favored by at least 20 points.

San Diego State ( -13 ) at UNLV

The Mountain West might be the best Group of Five conference top to bottom making games within the league entertaining. UNLV is good example of the competitiveness. The Rebels have yet to win a game in the MW going 0-3, but they ventured into SEC territory a few weeks ago and smoked Vanderbilt, 34-10, as a 16.5-point dog. So when the Rebels opened as an 11-point home dog to the Aztecs they were scooped up by the betting public.

That probably seems like a smart wager considering San Diego State has trouble scoring and plays close games. The Aztecs beat FCS Weber State 6-0 in their opener as a 12-point favorite and five of their games have been decided by 10 points or less. Wise guys are banking on SDSU running the football with success and scoring points against a team that allows over 36 of them per game.
