Clemson Tigers Win Total Odds Analysis

Clemson Tigers Win Total Odds Analysis

The Clemson Tigers are coming off an absolutely dominant 2018 season, and with star quarterback Trevor Lawrence back to lead the way, the expectations are just as high for 2019. Clemson went 15-0 last year and blasted Alabama to win the national title. Clemson has reached the Crimson Tide’s level as these two programs are clearly the best in college football. The current college football odds have a gaudy win total for Clemson but bettors are not shying away from putting their faith in the Tigers to live up to the billing. Coach Dabo Swinney has things rolling at Clemson as the team is aiming for another fantastic regular season to set itself up for a berth in the College Football Playoff.

Clemson Win Total Odds Analysis

Clemson plays 12 games in the regular season, so the projected win total is asking if the Tigers will lose a single game all year. Not only does Clemson have a crazy amount of talent, but its spot in the ACC means the schedule is not nearly as tough as the ones faced by the teams in the SEC.

The Tigers will begin the year with back-to-back home games against Georgia Tech and Texas A&M. Clemson will be favored against the Aggies, but that’s a game the Tigers can’t afford to take lightly early in the year. Clemson then faces off against Syracuse, Charlotte, North Carolina, Florida State, Louisville, Boston College, Wofford, North Carolina State and Wake Forest. The regular season will wrap up with a road game against South Carolina. If Clemson is undefeated up to that point, there will be plenty riding on that showdown.

Clemson Odds

Clemson was dominant on both sides of the ball a year ago, but the offense may have to do some heavy lifting early on in 2019. That’s just fine with that group, as it should be extremely explosive. Lawrence is on the short list of Heisman Trophy favorites and he has plenty of skill players to spread the ball to on the field. Tee Higgins had 59 catches for 936 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2018 and is likely to go over 1,000 yards this year provided he remains healthy. Running back Travis Etienne was a star last year and he is also set to return as Clemson will be able to dominate opponents in several different facets depending on what weakness is identified from week to week.

Clemson lost some serious star power off its defense from last season. Defensive linemen Clelin Ferrell, Christian Wilkins and Dexter Lawrence all went in the first round of the NFL draft, while cornerback Trayvon Mullen and defensive end Austin Bryant also went within the first four rounds. Even with all of those departures, the team has plenty of talent waiting in the wings, and the defense could still be an elite unit.

Key Stats or Trends

Even though this projected win total seems like quite the tall task, Clemson has only lost two regular season games over the past four years. It’s tough to guarantee an undefeated year but the pieces certainly seem to be in place to do so. Lawrence was a superstar from the jump last season and that experience should serve him well heading into his sophomore season. The “over” is currently the betting favorite, meaning the majority of the bettors believe Clemson will put together yet another undefeated season in 2019. Swinney might not be in Nick Saban’s stratosphere as a coach quite yet, but he is on the right track.
