Academy Awards Odds

The 91st Academy Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday night on ABC and odds are on the board at BookMaker for a number of categories, including all of the most popular ones. Roma is favored to win Best Picture, Rami Malek is favored to win Best Actor, Glenn Close is favored to win Best Actress, Mahershala Ali is favored to win Best Supporting Actor, Regina King is favored to win Best Supporting Actress and Alfonso Cuarón is favored to win Best Director. Let’s look at the odds for all six of those categories and Oscars picks.

Odds to Win Best Picture

Roma -525

Green Book +380

A Star Is Born +1678

Black Panther +1800

Bohemian Rhapsody +3000

The Favourite +3000

BlacKkKlansman +5000

Vice +5000

Roma is a solid favorite to win the Oscar for Best Picture, but keep in mind that no foreign-language film has ever won Best Picture. Green Book just might be worth a flyer at odds of +380. Keep in mind that The Producers Guild Awards picked Green Book as their winner and oftentimes the winner of that award will also get the Oscar. The Screen Actors Guild actually picked Black Panther for Best Picture.

Odds to Win Best Actor

Rami Malek, (Bohemian Rhapsody) -2000

Christian Bale, (Vice) +300

Bradley Cooper, (A Star Is Born) +5000

Willem Dafoe, (At Eternity’s Gate) +5000

Viggo Mortensen, (Green Book) +5000

If you look at the odds it would seem that Malek is a shoe-in to win this award, but maybe the Academy gives Cooper some sympathy votes for his film not getting much love in other categories. Malek is probably going to win, but laying -2000 is something that is tough to do.

Odds to Win Best Actress

Glenn Close, (The Wife) -650

Olivia Colman, (The Favourite) +450

Lady Gaga, (A Star Is Born) +580

Yalitza Aparicio, (Roma) +3800

Melissa McCarthy, (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) +5000

You might be surprised to know that Close has never won an Oscar. That should change this year, as there is no real challenger. Colman isn’t really even in a lead role and Gaga is unlikely to win.

Odds to Win Best Supporting Actor

Mahershala Ali, (Green Book) -2500

Richard E. Grant, (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) +750

Sam Elliott, (A Star Is Born) +1100

Adam Driver, (BlacKkKlansman) +4000

Sam Rockwell, (Vice) +4000

Ali should easily win this award, as there are no serious challengers. I think Green Book just might steal Best Picture and Ali is going to win Best Supporting Actor.

Odds to Win Best Supporting Actress

Regina King, (If Beale Street Could Talk) -290

Rachel Weisz, (The Favourite) +300

Amy Adams, (Vice) +350

Emma Stone, (The Favourite) +3000

Marina de Tavira, (Roma) +4000

It would seem that King is going to win this award, as Weisz hasn’t gotten a lot of accolades in her career, and Adams never wins the Oscar.

Odds to Win Best Director

Alfonso Cuarón, (Roma) -2000

Spike Lee, (BlacKkKlansman) +700

Adam McKay, (Vice) +2000

Pawel Pawlikowski, (Cold War) +2000

Yorgos Lanthimos, (The Favourite) +2576

This one is really over before it even gets announced, as Cuarón is almost a certainty to win for Best Director.

Odds are also on the board for the Best Animated Feature, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Foreign Film, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing, Best Original Score, Best Original Song, Best Makeup and Hair, Best Costume Design, Best Visual Effects, Best Animated Short, Best Documentary Feature and Best Documentary Short Subject.

Oscars Picks

It is really hard to lay big prices in anything, but if you can parlay a few of these they might be worth considering. I think Close is a given to win Best Actress, Ali is a near lock to win Best Supporting Actor, King looks to be a given to win Best Supporting Actress and Cuarón should easily win Best Director. Parlaying those four together is worth looking at. If you are looking for a single bet then I would take a flyer on Green Book to win Best Picture at odds of +380.
