Fidelity Expected to Offer Bitcoin Trading

Bitcoin continues to make inroads into the mainstream of the financial world as more and more companies are taking notice. Fidelity is reportedly set to include Bitcoin trading to its services for clients within the next few weeks. Fidelity has a part of their business that is called Fidelity Digital Assets and that part of the company will be adding Bitcoin trading. The news that Fidelity is adding Bitcoin comes on the heels of E-Trade adding Bitcoin to their trading platform.

Bitcoin Trading Gaining Popularity

Fidelity has added Bitcoin trading to their platform because investors want it. They said that almost a quarter of investors who responded to a recent survey said that they wanted cryptocurrency in their portfolio. Fidelity spokeswoman Arlene Roberts said to Bloomberg that Fidelity is already supporting some clients. “We currently have a select set of clients we’re supporting on our platform. We will continue to roll out our services over the coming weeks and months based on our clients’ needs, jurisdictions, and other factors. Currently, our service offering is focused on Bitcoin.”

The demand for Bitcoin among investors continues to grow. “More institutional investors are engaging with digital assets, either directly or through service providers, as the potential impact of blockchain technology on financial markets — new and old — becomes more readily apparent,” Fidelity Digital Assets president Tom Jessop said to the media recently.

Most Crypto Trades are from the United States

It came as a surprise to some that the majority of cryptocurrency traders were from the United States. In a recent report by DataLight that analyzed the trading at 100 Bitcoin exchanges, they found that 22 million users are from the United States. Japan users were a distant second at 6 million, while South Korea was next at 5 million. Some people thought that South Korea would have a higher number, but some exchanges like Bithumb have volume that can’t be confirmed.

The research by DataLight also found some other interesting things including surprising interest from people in Turkey. There have been big fluctuations in the value of the Turkish Lira, so perhaps it shouldn’t be that surprising that people are looking into Bitcoin. Only about 3% of the Turkish population is considered traders, compared to 7% of the United States population that is said to be trading cryptocurrency.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the DataLight research is the fact that there are about 68 million crypto traders in the world. That figure is staggering, as it is more than the population of most countries. Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao said that he thinks the number of crypto users in the future will be more than the current number of Internet users. “In a few years, there will be more users in #crypto than there are users for internet today.” Zhao said recently.

Zhao’s statement seems extremely unrealistic, but what is not unrealistic is the future for Bitcoin. Many top companies are incorporating Bitcoin into their everyday business. The list of companies that joins the list of those using Bitcoin continues to grow. Marquee companies like Starbucks, Overstock.com and BookMaker have Bitcoin as part of their business. BookMaker is a leading online sportsbook and they have had Bitcoin as a deposit and withdrawal option for quite some time. Most of their customers now use Bitcoin on a regular basis to send and receive money.

BookMaker is not alone, as other top companies are using Bitcoin as a payment option. If you check the latest news you will find more top companies joining BookMaker because they are realizing that Bitcoin is a great way for their customers to send and receive money and to buy goods and services. When you see marquee names getting involved in cryptocurrency and top trading firms like Fidelity deciding to offer crytpocurrency trading, you know that Bitcoin is getting into the mainstream of society.
