Sacramento Kings NBA Betting Lines

When the Sacramento Kings made the 2023 NBA Playoffs under head coach Mike Brown, the franchise appeared to be all future. But in 2025, it all came crashing down. Following two consecutive winning seasons, the Kings took a step back in 2024-25. Sacramento lacked secondary support for De’Aaron Fox in previous seasons and finally traded him in the middle of the season in the ultimate white flag move. Most important of all to the wagering community was a heavy flood of red ink. Sacramento was one of the worst values on the board this past year. Head coach Mike Brown was fired after a 13-18 start, which factored into Sacramento giving up on Fox. After a lackluster summer that graded as one of the least productive offseasons in 2025, the Kings are staring at a lost season ahead.

Off-Season Moves for 2025-26

Key additions: Dennis Schröder, Nique Clifford, Dario Šaric

Key subtractions: Jonas Valanciunas, Jake LaRavia

The Kings sure made signing Dennis Schröder a priority this summer. Who knows what that will do, but make their quest to compete for a playoff spot in the Western Conference slightly more disappointing. Trading Jonas Valanciunas for Dario Šaric is an odd decision, too, but it's motivated by a desire to help the Nuggets.

Fans in Sacramento are hoping for Nique Clifford, the 24th pick, who will be introduced to a team led by Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Domantas Sabonis, one of the oddest collections of talent in the league. Two of them formed the nucleus of a mediocre Chicago Bulls team, and the other has been the anchor of a mediocre team in Sacramento for some time. Together, they remain as mediocre as it gets.

A curious offseason didn't seem to move the Kings closer to a playoff return. Prioritizing point guard after trading De'Aaron Fox in February was reasonable. Still, Sacramento gave Schroder a three-year, $45 million deal that might not age well given Schroder's reliance on quickness.

That deal forced the Kings to swap Valanciunas for Saric, who barely played last season, to stay out of the luxury tax. Sacramento might have been better off targeting a point guard on a cheaper deal, such as Tre Jones, or letting Valanciunas leave for a reported offer from Greek power Olympiacos and getting out of his deal altogether.

Key Players

PF Domantas is a 3-time NBA All-Star and was the 11th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft out of Gonzaga. Sabonis has averaged more than 12 rebounds and 18 points per game every season since 2019-20. This past season, Sabonis averaged 19.1 points and 13.9 rebounds per contest.

Initially, Zach LaVine took over as the marquee man on the Bulls. But he was traded to the Kings the midseason of 2024-25. This past year, he averaged 22.4 points per game. LaVine was a first-round pick in 2014 by the Minnesota Timberwolves out of UCLA. He is a two-time NBA All-Star.

Head Coach

Assistant Doug Christie took over from Mike Brown and went 27-24 to end the season. This is his first head coaching assignment. Christie played in the NBA for several teams from 1993 through 2007. He was a Sacramento assistant from 2021 through 2024.

Sacramento Kings History

You might be surprised to learn that the Sacramento Kings are one of the NBA’s oldest franchises. They were founded as the Rochester Royals in 1948, and they were one of the best teams in the league through the first five seasons. They won at least 60% of their games each year and won the 1951 NBA Finals. Given the early success of this franchise, no one would have guessed that the one title would still be the team’s lone championship 70+ years later.

The Rochester Royals moved to Cincinnati in 1957. They struggled through their first four years in the Queen City, but the Cincinnati Royals made the postseason in six straight seasons from 1962 to 1967. Standout guard Oscar Robertson played ten seasons with the Royals, but the franchise once again moved shortly after trading Robertson and Jerry Lucas.

After moving to the Kansas City-Omaha area (and then just Kansas City), the franchise changed its nickname to the Kings due to the Kansas City Royals already playing baseball in the city. Nate Archibald helped fill the stands in the first few seasons, but once again, they only managed to find a temporary home.

The Kings have operated in Sacramento since 1985 and had one era of glory from 1999 through 2006. They posted eight consecutive winning seasons and playoff berths with an appearance in the Western Conference Finals in 2002. That 2002 series against the Los Angeles Lakers went down in infamy for what many fans and gamblers saw as questionable officiating, to put it delicately. Many have commented in far stronger terms that the league preferred the Lakers in the NBA Finals instead of the Kings.

Since that stretch of success, the Sacramento Kings have not made the playoffs or even finished with a winning record until 2022-23. This franchise went 16 straight seasons without finishing over .500, and the Kings were the laughingstock of the NBA.
